I actually liked this more than Casino Royale. Just reading the comments about CR I wonder how many of you have watched lately? It has absolutely no more story than QoS and still manages a longer running time.

I mean, they play poker for 1/3 of the film and Le Chiffre's motives for playing are never fully explained. As for Mathew Almaric, I think he is a really scary villain. He's just the guy next to you on the tube! The whole premise that anybody can be a member of Quantum is the really frightening part. Most terrorists are just ordinary men and women.

I liked the way the action was handled way more than in the Bourne films, not nearly as nauea inducing, way less shakey cam.

Overall a stripped down kickass action/revenge/Bond film that has trimmed the fat of previous entries.

Monzo44 makes an interesting point. But I just saw Green as a guy who wants to get rich by causing a drought in Bolivia and not much else.

LeChiffre wants the money from the poker winnings to payback the investment he stole (and lost) from his terrorist buddies. If he loses, he dies. I just enjoyed QOS for the film it was and never felt much need to compare it blow by blow to CR or any other Bond.

I agree with some complaints about the editing though. It was so fast it was hard to see what was going on in the fights at times. But like you Mark I enjoyed it

3.75 rounded to one decimal place is 3.8... so maybe that's where grim got it from!

I'm sure I heard him say he's contracted for 4 Bonds or was it 5. Either way another one for sure.

I couldn't disagree more with monzo44. Casino Royale has a much better story, with characters we care about and actual character development.

I cared about Camille in Quantum, she was this film's Vesper. But I agree the story isnt as strong as Casino Royale.

Camille was just freakin' HOT.

No they were part of the story! Do you not remember Camille being terrified of the fire at the end of the film?! It was because it brought back memories of her family's deaths.

Hey Brad,

Tell me again what character development there is in CR? Bond's situation is explained in the first 5mins, we don't find out anything of any importance about anybody else, do we? M was already established. Felix is introduced in his new incarnation, but fans know who he is any way. AmI just not seeing it?

I like both films, but I don't know where this character development is, I didn't see any. Also QoS is for all intents and purposes a continuation, so any of the characters we've already been introduced to in the first film don't need any further development. Olga'scharacter get's as much, if not more, back story than Eva Geene did in CR.

So I've seen it twice. Oh my God the second viewing is required. I loved it even more the second time. Easy 8/10 for me. My main complaint is the shaky cam ruining some of the action scenes but other than that I have no real complaints. I love the idea of Greene creating a drought. Throughout it you think he is talking about oil but then it's revealed that it's water. Of course this is our "most precious resource" in years to come it'll become more scarce. I thought this story was perfect for a new Bond film. Tieing up the end with the ex-boyfriend was great. Bond didn't kill him and thus has become the Bond we all know and love. I was also taken by the final shot of Vesper's necklace lying in the snow. Oh man so great!

I thought he was talking about oil too - that was well done.

The Bond theme song wasnt THAT bad when I heard it in the cinema but its one of the worse ones. Also musically it sounds more like a Jack White song than an Alicia Keys song.

That was the Pearl & Dean theme Grim.

I think Captain Joe has seen another film than us .

The theme tune was great though, it worked even better over the titles.
