It won't change anything if they do. Universal and Paramount will still exist, as will all the small HD-DVD only companies. Toshiba will still exist too.
As to region coding getting worse I think it will get worse in America which is by far the biggest country people import from. As I'll have a Region A Player it doesn't matter much to me. Agreed it still sucks though.

if warner went blu i think it'd be the start of the slippery slope for HD-DVD.don't forget Paramount's exclusivity is only for 18 months of which 6 have elapsed already.

I'll still be getting a Combo player as there are just so many films on both formats but overall if one did die it would be great.

That's probably a given
The (minor) upside to BD winning will be there is much more incentive for someone to break BD Regional Coding or supply Dual RA/RB compatible Players, like that one I posted the other day.
As long as it had some kind of 12 month warranty I'd buy it.

If Warners went Blu-Ray exclusive I think HD would be dead in the water. Paramount would be fucked for the next 12 months.
If Warners went HD exclusive it would be a massive boost for HD and I think we'd see a major compromise on the part of Blu-Ray so that both formats could live side-by-side/be compatable as Sony wouldn't want to compete without Warners backing (and the other manufacturers and distributors would get a little edgy too I'd imagine).

In the short term it wouldn't change much but 12-24 months definitely. The interesting thing would be, what would Universal do? They're the clincher!
I can't see Sony going HD-DVD even if Warner pick HD-DVD. The BD market has always been stronger, this wouldn't change that. Right now it's all conjecture of course.

depends on how strong paramount and universal are.it'll be around a while yet,certainly in europe where it seems more popular than in the usa.

Ok this doesn't refer to Brad's combo but it just shows how unreliable standalones are=taken from the avs forums and he's talking about the War BD.
I wish I could watch this movie on my Samsuck BD-P1200. Unfortunately, I merely get to add it to my growing collection of Blu-Rays and SD DVD's that don't work or have serious issues on this player.
Another $30 coaster for me. Oh wait, Samsuck told me they expect to have a firmware update for this movie in about a week or so. That would be sweet, if they hadn't been telling me the same thing for POTC:AWE since that movie was released.

I love how you've renamed the Samsung BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player into "Brad's Combo"
I hope this Warner announced gives Samsung and the like a big kick up the backside to get decent firmware out sooner, and release their players with decent firmware from the offset. The hardware (assuming it's Profile 1.1 compliant) actually seems to be pretty good.
I hope in the long term this isn't a problem and they'll work out how to use Profile 1.1 and BD Java to it's fullest because right now it's causing major problems. Most of the problem discs lye in the fact they use newer BD technology. Those that just have basic menus and extras used in a standard fashion seem to work fine.
