Me and my ex were given similer options, She insisted on the wedding and we all know ow that turned out. Her folks must have lost about 5-6K in deposits and bills, if only they put that into the house they could have had it back.bradavon wrote:It's not my cup of tea either but then neither is the registry office. £10,000 on one day is just crazy to me but then like I said I wouldn't go to the registry office either. Something in the middle. It gets more crazy when you know my sister was given the choice of £10,000 towards a house or £10,000 for one day.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas when it comes!

(Most) Women do have an odd pervasion to "that special day". A wedding needs to be special (hence why I think a registry office is an awful idea) but it's just one day at the end of the day.
I used to be spoilt too but my parents have both (thankfully) been much more sensible this year. It got silly at times. Obviously I loved the presents but it just meant my Mum had a MASSIVE credit card debt each January to March which really isn't worth it.Tigercage wrote:I have been spoilt again this year

Marrying the girl you love is special enough. Immediate family and close friends attending is more than satisfactory for me. Save the romance for the honeymoon. I mean does having an ice sculpture of a swan or a bunch of freeloaders downing vodka and canopies really spell romance??bradavon wrote:It's not my cup of tea either but then neither is the registry office. Nah when i got back from my second stint in India last Christmas we split, was due to be married 07/07/07.Markgway wrote:I'm gonna take the term "ex" as a clue.Tigercage wrote:Me and my ex were given similer options, She insisted on the wedding and we all know ow that turned out.
Did you actually get as far as going down the aisle?
2007 started off as the worst year in my life but looks like its ending as the best. It was all a bit sad but i have not looked back since the split, we are still friends, i managed to gain alot of project management/life experience out in India, moved into a fantastic job here in Edinburgh, met a cracking lady and we moved into our new waterfront apartment in time for christmas!!

That's some jump from a registry office. There is definitely something in the middle of a registry office and an all out uber expensive wedding.Markgway wrote:Save the romance for the honeymoon. And to ensure a blissful marriage you've remained in that state ever since...saltysam wrote:i got married in a church way back in 1986.can't remember much about it though,i was pissed![]()
True enough.bradavon wrote:I believe you can get married anywhere as long as you have a minister present. Somewhere that is special to the two of you.

I'm back from my girlfriend. OK Xmas. Been out to dinner a few times, been skating and bowling, been assaulted by her little nieces, etc etc.
I dont like Xmas much, and I dont like having a busy schedule, but it was OK I guess...
Still though, I'd rather spend Xmas in bed watching movies and playing games and eating lots of unhealthy sweet crap.
Anyway, about marriage: I'll let my girlfriend decide on how she wants it. It's her day. I already know I wanna spend the rest of my life with her, so I couldnt care less about a formal ceremony. Plus I dont have many friends, and I hardly have a family, so all I have to do is show up, shut up, grin like a masturbating monkey all day long, and hope we'll get through the day without me setting people on fire or punching people out.
I do hope we will marry in Hong Kong or some place far from here, so I'll have a good solid excuse for not inviting relatives and such

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
