I'll answer any specific questions they have. But I won't set out an agenda for it.bradavon wrote:Okay I probably put it badly. I'll try again. When your child is growing up and asks questions about religion, what are you going to tell them? To go and read read a book?
No they can decide for themselves when they're mature enough to understand the texts. I'm not going to tell them what to think. And what about day to day life by not telling them anything (i.e - as most people do in today's society) you're inadvertently teaching them to be non-believers. I'm not explaining myself very well.
Lol, no, you really lost me on that last quote. If you're not taught when you grow up to believe as you correctly say it's unlikely you will later believe ergo without knowing it your kid will likely not believe without any decision of his own. That was my point. Am I making sense?
I wouldn't describe myself as ignorant of religion. I wouldn't be against it if I didn't know what it was about. And that's what I'm saying I wouldn't teach my kids to be for or against religion. It's something they have to find out themselves if they wish not be taught. To an extent but I'd also say anyone who is a non-believer is also by their very nature ignorant in the religion and therefore isn't really equipped to give a true judgement.
So you're saying that a. white parents are passive and b. Muslim parents are biggoted?I'd say it's more the usual case of Muslims vocally disagreeing so as you say their kids can opt out but white kids as you put it their parents just being quite as lumping it OR probably more likely their parents not having a problem with it.

i did opt out of R.E. though i didnt leave the class i sat and read books most of the time. for my school we were taught only about christianity, i had already studied religion in my own time and could contradict the teacher with various questions and answers about the bible. in the end i got bored and decided that it was best that i paid no attention, instead i read books by jiddu krishnamurti and zachria sitchin. if they'd have taught pther religions then sure i'd have joined in but they didnt. but it wasnt until year 10 that i finally realized i could refuse to participate...

Yes they can beleve it all they want, but its not eduction at all it isnt history even most the time, history is of events that happened, not made up tales to keep common people in line.
Why not teach the evils of the devil cults? or the insanity of the other myths as a class subject? becuase Religion has braiwashed most the world thats why. Its like fags, they wont be banned becuase the government makes cash from them, same as Religion its a multi billion pound bussiness, and the more they Recruit the more cash the big wigs get and the more they brainwash.
But hey I better shut up now as Its a silly subject to even talk about and I should know better
but I will keep trying to stop evil parents forcing the Passion on their kids, or reccomend them some better slasher films with full on gore, let them watch the hardcore zombie films as hell they are rated 18 they must be ok for kids too and they are as real to life as The Passion ever will be.

You know that study that determined men think about sex every 8 seconds or so, on average? I'm the guy that brought that down by a whole two seconds.Markgway wrote:And lol at Kurgan and his sex mad brain.
I've got to say, I had a really different experience to the one that Romero recounts. We were never forced to believe in anything that was told to us. We were just educated about the major belief systems that are held around the world.

The sad thing is I have nasty memories of R.E.
For instance I still remember asking quetions to the teacherand regulary getting wrong for doing so!!
like It would take thousands of people many years to make the Ark, and even then the food the animals would need and the wood to make the Ark would be massive, I was told to get out and stay in the corridor and feel like a dick, all for even asking questions that are things I thought becuase the silly stories obviously make no sense at all to anyone with a brain and any sense of reality. Thats pathetic and that "teacher" in my eyes now deserves to be sacked, or beaten.
Still I know the situation now has changed, its all legal shit now sadly and you cannot say anything without either you or the teacher getting on the news are making cash from court cases.
Its still not a school subject at all, its not like English, or maths, they are real, Religion should be a section of English under fiction as a lot of it is pure made up story stuff, as hell no one can beleve all that.

You've made some fair points Romero about what is written literally in the bible but what about the karma and well being it brings to millions of people? To their daily lives and especially when a loved one does, it helps them get trough it.
If it helps them through it them let them get on with it I say.
You're taking religion as if it's just words on a page when it's something considerably larger and far more complicated than you're making out.
I'm sure if an intelligent Christian sat down he/she would come to the same conclusion as you over Noah's ark but then like I said that doesn't immediately mean the entire religion should be abandoned just because aspects when scientifically analysed don't add up.
As for the sex mad stuff:

Agreed. For my money, atheism is as 'bad' as religion. Both adhere to a finality and dogma and therefore an inherent lack of movement from a held position. Agnosticism is the way to go. I'm not saying that one should have c'est la vie or que sera sera as one's mottos for life (although as mottos go, those aren't too bad), but you should accept that you can't possibly know the nature of God, but that we're all here for a better reason than a giant series of massive flukes.
As for the sex mad stuff:
How do you come to the conclusion I said Muslim parents are bigoted? But yes I am saying many white parents are passive. If we have to bring colour into a non-colour debate. So you're saying that a. white parents are passive and b. Muslim parents are biggoted?
I wouldn't have been allowed to not-partake. I was happy to mind you, except for hymn practise which I did try to get out of but couldn't.but it wasnt until year 10 that i finally realized i could refuse to participate...

I wouldn't be so sure. Religious fanatics refuse blind to question anything about their faith. I would at least have respect for those who do.bradavon wrote:I'm sure if an intelligent Christian sat down he/she would come to the same conclusion as you over Noah's ark
Well, you're saying that white kids should be taught RE, but that it's OK for Muslim parents to opt out. Is that not what you meant? If not, please clarify. How do you come to the conclusion I said Muslim parents are bigoted? But yes I am saying many white parents are passive. If we have to bring colour into a non-colour debate.

I can't fathom how you came to that conclusion when I already replied to your previous statement saying it's racist.
But anyway what I said was it's more "likely" Muslim parents would speak out and ergo get their kid removed, whereas non-Christian (the white word really isn't applicable) parents would lump it and say "it's good for you son/daughter", to not cause trouble.
For example: Muslims threatened to murder those Danish journalists who wrote that comic book whereas Christians who complained about that Jerry Springer show held up some plaques, complained a bit then went home for their coco. I know not a perfect example but you get the idea.
Just in my experience anyway.

Weird I hadnt noticed this discussion earlier...
Anyway, I'm also not planning on getting into a big discussion, as you will just have the people saying there is no God, and people who say there is.
Personally, I'm not religious. I think it's human nature to believe in 'something higher', in order to deal with certain questions, dillemas, situations, etc etc...
Which is fine. People can believe anything they want, as long as they don't force their thoughts onto other people.
Muhammad Ali said it best: there is only one true, universal religion, and that's LOVE.
I dont think you have to be religious to be a good person. Nor do I think you have to be an atheist to be a sane person.
Most religious people use their faith as a guideline to live a good live.
Only a certain few are way too fanatical about it, and since these are the people who will usually be in the headlines, they are the ones who give (their) religion a bad reputation.
