It seems to me the Chinese are shocked as it's a Chinese film, more so than anything more than is actually shown in Western films.

So is the HK DVD worth getting? I remember that the first DVDs of "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers" were poo in comparison with what discs were released later on.

Yup I am waiting for the reviews forst thats for sure but its tempting to get it many months early I guess.

Correct on HOFD but not Hero, the original HK TC is perfectly fine and never got re-released. It's one of the better HK DVDs.

Hero DC came way later but that's not to be compared with the TC, the TC was even 2 discs.

As for this I have it on order, it's only £6.99 after vouchers from CD WOW.

I have the TC 2-discer from Edko. However, the DC was released by Edko later, too.

That doesn't make it poo as you put it.

In the case of "Hero" I'd say less worth getting than the Edko DC release. In the case of HOFD I rest my case, though.

I just picked up the HK DVD. Ah well that has DTS ES so I'd prefer it anyway. Still this is bound to look better. Rubbish cover art though and what poor extras.

Pah I'm not bothered I'm sure the HK will be fine, and like I said it does have DTS.

The HK disc is awesome. I watched it tonight.
Great picture, great sound, great subtitles.

The UK version will be missing an illegal horsefall.

You know more about AV than me so if you're happy I'm definitely not getting the R1.

Is the HK DVD interlaced? Either way I'll stick with my HK DVD. I'd prefer DTS than some pathetic featurettes.

Seriously? I have to wonder why they put one in there. I appreciate they don't think about non-Chinese censors but I also fail to see why they have to include on all the time.

I'm not saying this from a animal rights point of view but why bother? It's not like horse falls even again ignoring the animal right issues look particularly exciting.

Is it also a Sony release. If not they may pull something like Pathe did for HOFD and load it with extras (way more than the R1 Sony got). If so I may get that (too).

Still looks spectacular to me, especially in slow motion. I like horses a lot and I used to ride one every now and then until I was 14. Kinda losed interest, but looking back, I kinda regret that I haven't continued with it. Our horse in Jordan died last year and I was very sad about that. He was a wonderful stallion who would run to me whenever I went back to visit him.

Anyway, (lol, kinda drifted away) I just think it is an impressive stunt, for both, the rider and the horse and they never fail to impress me. Any artistry that has to do with horseriding is nice in my eyes (for example that little chase in CTHD where he would jump off the horse while riding it and then jump back on it).

True horse stunts can be impressive. I don't think it needs to be in every period Chinese film though.

It isn't. In fact, thinking about it, tha majority of the ones I saw didn't have any.
