Long Good Friday BD 4/5 It's dated a little but this still remains an excellent british gangster flick.Hoskins is superb as Harold Shand.the BD is an improvement on the dvd but it's not spectacular,more a solid upgrade.

The original mono/stereo is included too right? Given how bad AB are at 5.1 remixes. I always insist on it, for AB discs.

Have you watched Blade 2 yet? I reckon I'll get it and 21 Grams from Play.com soon. Being Canadian discs, the price of both is unlikely to go down any time soon. 21 Grams has been £11.99 from Playusa.com since launch and not budged.

21 Grams only ever had a Making Of. and I don't care about extras for Blade 2 at all.

Bicycle Thieves: 4/5

Quite a simple story, but a very good film. It uses some natural locations (eg the back alleys and streets of Rome) and has a haunting theme music. Sometimes it seems as if the DVD subtitles are just intermittent, they don't translate everything and it was hard to understand what was being said.

Angels & Demons 3.5/5

A decent enough film brought down by the fact that I'd read the vastly superior book. A lot of completely unnecessary changes are made from the book, including the omission and changing of the illuminati diamond to something else, the omission of the attempt to kill Langdon in the fountain by the assassin, the omission and changing of Langdon being in the helicopter, changing the location and how the carmalengo "gains" the knowledge of the location of the bomb and how the subsequent adulation of the cardinals is treated. I don't know why they have to change so many things that worked well in the book. I can understand sometimes why omissions are made, often for a tighter film and so that it isn't overlong, but when changes are made when they weren't needed, I get annoyed. Good film, but I much prefered the book.

District 9: 4.5/5

Exciting and intelligent sci fi thriller that is also a powerful allegory on showing prejudice and racism in South Africa. Aliens known as "prawns" are treated like non whites under apartheid, in a film where (in effect), humans are the bad guys. However, when a Government worker becomes infected with an alien fluid, he goes on the run and the aliens help him and he sides with them too.
One of the best films I've seen this year.

No, unfortunately not. 3D would have been 2 Euros more expensive per ticket. But then again, the only films in 3D in that theatre were "Final Destination 4" and "Ice Age 3".

I've never seen a 3D film in actual 3D in my life.

I was too young to enjoy the 80s boom and now I just don't care.

Watched My Bloody Valentine & F13th Pt 3 in 3D at home recently.gave me a headache...doesn't help i wear glasses and getting those stupid plasticky 3d over them is horrendous icon_suspect

At home it is 100% total shit and does not work at all why they even bother is beyond me at home. Still people who wear glasses are double stuffed at home and in cinema, you would think they could invent ones for people who wear glasses!

At least in the cinema 3D is pretty amazing looking, better than you can imagine, but distracting still and does take you out of some films I have found. Still it is still mainly for kids films and trash so far, when a great film comes along I may be upset seeing it in 3D. We will probibly see with Avatar I guess.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (USA, 2006) - 2/5
The original The Fast and the Furious was as good as a headache. John Singleton’s 2 Fast 2 Furious however turned out surprisingly solid with enjoyable caricature characters and good racing. Tokyo Drift falls somewhere in between. Compared to 2 Fast 2 Furious it’s got lesser driving scenes, worse soundtrack, and equally unattractive women on display. Also, Lukas Black, who plays the lead role, makes Vin Diesel and Paul Walker look like talented character actors. Tokyo as a setting is a nice idea, but none of the potential is really used. There’s no cultural context other than a few words of foreign language being spoken, and Shinichi Chiba making an unmemorable appearance two scenes. The film could just as well take place in Los Angeles, where parts of it were actually shot. It’s no surprise the filmmakers couldn’t shoot racing action in Shinjuku and Shibuya without the help of cgi and “city doubles”.

Shooter (USA, 2007) – 3/5
An enjoyable action thriller that has more in common with the early 90’s action films than modern filmmaking. Serious tone and heavy artillery, but thankfully no Matrix influences on sight. Director Fuqua knows Mark Walberg and a big caliber sniper rifle is a tough enough combination and does not need to be supported (ruined) by horrible over-stylization or music video editing. That being said, the film doesn’t quite reach its potential, and the screenplay is surprisingly dumb at times. But in terms of technical execution this is obviously the way to go.

I wear glasses so I guess I'm not missing anything other than a headache.

I've never watched anything in 3D either. There's been no 3D release so far I've any interest in. I suspect Avator will be my first 3D film. I want to give it a go but it strikes me as a gimmick and paying more to borrow the glasses, is a right cheek.

p.s - I need glasses when watching films too.

Contact lenses are the future peeps.

I've already had lens replacement surgery. My eyes are significantly better but I still need glasses to read/use a computer, drive and watch films. I can cope without them but it's a bit of a struggle. I guess in theory I could have lens in the front of my eyes (as well as the permanent ones in the back of my retina) but I wouldn't want to.

Besides you try wearing them. I did, it was awful.

Glasses are the devils work, lenses are perfect once you get used to them.

And prolonged use of contacts can lead to dry eyes which is horrible,believe me.not that i like wearing glasses but they are a necessary evil to me.

I hate wearing glasses. I remember when I wore them in school and in gym we had to do flips, and I always had to follow up my flip with a dive to catch my flying glasses.

I tried hard lenses in the past, but those were absolutely horrible. Soft lenses are great though. I usually buy new ones when I'm in Hong Kong (where they are much cheaper than in Holland, and the service is much faster and better).

I also hate the way I look with glasses, but my mother in law says I look better with glasses on. Obviously, that's just her sensitive way of saying: "you're fucking ugly and anything you put in front of your face to hide it, is an improvement, you bastard gwailo son-of-a-bitch who disgraced my daughter and thus our family!!!"

my mother keeps saying that with glasses I look like Peter Griffin, that never fails to rub me the wrong way!

I've no problem wearing glasses. I've been wearing them for over 20 years. I do love being able to go out of an evening and leave them at home though.

Is there anyone here who doesn't wear glasses or contacts?
