If you're going to take the piss at least check your grammar first.
I didn't just make it up, Google it. Cookies store, track, alter all manner of web activity. They're not just used to remember login credentials . Cache less so but are you 100% store your web browser isn't using an outdated locally store certificate? Of course you're not.
Only now have you explained WTF the you were talking about. You know I don't work in IT so simply saying 'it could be cookies' is no fucking help to me.
I also suggested trying a different web browser. I hope I don't have to explain the logic behind that advice. It shows more IT knowledge than "temp Windows glitch" :|.
Do you change your web browser everytime you get a security alert? All I did was ask a reasonable question and what do I get. A cunt showing off. Enjoy it while it lasts because tomorrow it'll be business as usual.
The $0.02 postage sale?
It's of some comfort that although you know more than me about IT you're still a moron in regards to pretty much everything else...

Let me get this straight, you've insisted on a lengthy explanation whenever calling call technical call centres before you do as they say? Of course you haven't.

Clearing cache and cookies is standard practise when having browser related problems. You've been using the Internet long enough to know this. Come on.
Markgway wrote:Do you change your web browser everytime you get a security alert? All I did was ask a reasonable question and what do I get. A cunt showing off. Enjoy it while it lasts because tomorrow it'll be business as usual.
You run Windows correct? And IE isn't your main browser also correct? You've ALREADY got two browsers installed then! Again something you already know. Open IE, copy/paste address, see if problem exist in other browser. It would immediately answer your question if it's a local PC or web server issue.

There's no way to remove IE from Windows (since Windows 98) without breaking it or at best serious operation problems.

Are you normally this insulting to someone when they've given you advice? You don't think it was a bit moronic to say: "Why would cookies cause a certificate alert?" As if you've got a clue what you're talking about and the assumption being I picked it out of thin air.

A. You're not a call centre.
B. I don't just do what people on internet forums tell me to do without having some understanding of the problem.
Clearing cache and cookies is standard practise when having browser related problems. You've been using the Internet long enough to know this. Come on.
Would it not be better for me to understand the problem rather than just blindly solve it based on vague advice? I had no idea that cookies could cause security problems. Why would you assume I knew given that it's never been an issue for me before?
And IE isn't your main browser also correct? You've ALREADY got two browsers installed then!
No. I only have Explorer.
Are you normally this insulting to someone when they've given you advice?
Only when they give me as much grief with it as you do... You're the only person I know who can piss someone off whilst helping them. It's truly a talent.
You don't think it was a bit moronic to say: "Why would cookies cause a certificate alert?" As if you've got a clue what you're talking about and the assumption being I picked it out of thin air.
So now I'm being moronic for asking a reasonable tech question? Should I just take everything you say at face value or just when it's about cookies? Whenever I post info in other threads where I'm more knowledgeable you ask for links and back-up evidence. I ask for a mere explanation - I never at any time said you were wrong I just wanted to know what you meant - and get shit. Double standards.

I asked you to clear cache and cookies not format your PC :D. You cannot do any harm by doing that, except having to log back into your favourite sites.

You still run WinXP right? So I'm guessing IE8 is your browser? That makes you, a tool. IE is a steaming pile of shit. Any other browser is better in literally every way. Even Apple's Safari is better than IE8 and that's awful too. Yi-long's beloved Avant is just a skin for IE (which adds features too), so despite what the website may tell you, it's not really a browser.

IE9 is significantly better but it's not compatible with WinXP. I've never known anyone to try Chrome, Firefox or Opera and then choose to go back to IE.
I never at any time said you were wrong I just wanted to know what you meant.
Where? Your response literally was:

"What answer? Why would cookies cause a certificate alert?"

Okay I'll put it really simply for you, if you ever get anomalies on a website, no matter how odd it may seem: Clear Cache, Cookies (and close/restart all browser windows)!

I never said I had a problem clearing my cookies. I actually did it. All I wanted you to do was explain why? How can that be difficult for you to understand?

Are all people who run IE8 tools or just me? Haven't had any major problems lately so what's the beef? I have Windows 7 BTW.
"What answer? Why would cookies cause a certificate alert?"
I didn't feel you'd explained yourself sufficiently. I wanted to know more. I wasn't challenging your tech knowledge.

Layer of condescension aside... what your suggesting is a fix but still leaves me clueless as to why such problems made crop up. But fuck it. I'm tired asking. Either you don't know or you're not saying -- and I don't care any more. End of.

Check Windows Update for IE9. It's miles better, much faster and makes IE usable for once. Everyone btw. IE8 especially is sluggish, slow and just awful. It's worse than IE7. IE9 is a breath of fresh air for Microsoft browsing. You didn't like Firefox right? You should give Chrome a go, you may yet prefer it.
Markgway wrote:Layer of condescension aside... what your suggesting is a fix but still leaves me clueless as to why such problems made crop up. But fuck it. I'm tired asking.
To be fair I did answer. It would be nigh on impossible to say exactly 100% why but cookies are stored in certificates, it's certainly possible you may have been using an old certificate that had expired (assuming clearing them fixed it of course). Cookies are basically little programs.

BTW: I got my ALIEN set on Saturday ordered from Tesco and it's the original foldout packaging, not the thick blu case packaging used for reprints that Amazon ship.

What's that work out with shipping?around £16? Great disc, expensive but sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet.damn those lucky yanks, the disc is only officially released today and they get it delivered for less than half rrp already.

Yeah, t'was about £16. Normally I wouldn't spend that, but I know Criterions rarely ever go cheap. Half-price month of release is a fair offer. It's also likely the only Criterion I'll buy so I take it as a one-off. I feel sorry for the fans who want to own multiple titles from that premium-priced label.

i don't,they never whine about the price and i suspect they collect films they don't even want because it's a Criterion. i own four i think.Need to get Videodrome & Paths Of Glory.

I never really bought many criterions on DVD but have a fair few of their Blur-rays in my collection now because they really have released some great films over the last few years.

I have still yet to go near Criterion Blu Rays, just waiting for other regions to just copy them and release them cheaper. Is not working so far

Mind you Yojimbo/Sanjuro Box Set works out a bit over £20 for two Criterions  I may have went for it
