hey,
The Blue Kite 4.5/5
I dare call it a masterpiece, Tian Zhuangzhuang's widely acclaimed and also banned epic about a Beijing family trying to live through the political times of the 50s and 60s, not with it as such. Tian puts forth a good balance between hatred for the way historical events such as The Great Leap Forward and The Cultural Revolution were conducted and a neutral stance towards the ordinary people trying to execute those trains of thoughts. All with a center of the film in the form of a young boy called Tietou.

HKL "Restoration" Featurette (on the Iron Fisted Monk DVD) - 0/5
Insulting, riduculous patronising puff piece masquerading as a real feature

The first section merely goes on about how great HKL is/was with random quotes on the screen, and was just HKL saying "Look arent we great".
Mind you, when you consider HKL DVDs are now relatively bear bones thanks to the loss of Bey - how the mighty have fallen!

Iron Fisted Monk HKL - 4/5
Really enjoyed this

I wonder how the Fox measures up (probably better PQ).

"Iron Fisted Monk" is a wonderful film. I love the moment when they try to take the monk into the brothel.

Lord of War 3/5 (?)
What an odd, odd film
The rather truncated story of how one man becomes the (small) arms dealer of choice to the worlds despots, with an "the innocents" suffer sub text writ large, together with "a marriage with secrets never work" morality tale, that ends up being amoral, with humor....
I cant decided if i liked / enjoyed the Lord of War or not, didn't seem to be able to pick the right "note"/"tone"
Basically a very sombre film in parts, with jokes... kinda like wearing a satin pink lame suit to your uncles wake, its a suit but inappropriate.
Is it worth watching / yes
Is it worth watching again / probably not
Will you enjoy it / probably

Welcome Uberbloke to Bullets. Yeah, that film has been getting mixed reviews. I will see it on DVD eventually though since I'm a Nic Cage fan and because I enjoyed the director's past film, Gattaca.

Love that film, just like all of Niccol's works (as a director).

Fearless 4.5/5
You guys seen this? It's a lot better than I expected. Honestly, I thought this was going to be a dumb action flick but it evolves into this beautiful lesson on moral values. Love the photography, exquisite use of filters, CGI and slow motion. It's good to see such a traditional wire-fu period getting all glossed up and modern.
Mike Leeder is in this film.
Nathan Jones is legendary.
This is the first Ronny Yu film I've seen.

Man, I absolutely love this film. I love how it deals with the dark side of Huo Yuan-chia (Fok Yun-gap). Jet Li is probably the best martial arts character actor out there. The film really made me cry during some scenes, but also laugh at other funny scenes.
Unfortunately, I never watched the last 20 minutes as the DVD just stop playing. Right when the fight against the Japanese guy starts, where he is given the sword and Yuan-chia is given the three-element-pole. I'm really sad about that. I tried on other DVD players and on my DVD drive. Wouldn't work, even when I tried to rip it.
The guys from the store still haven't got back to me, but there is a person on this board who might be able to help me out on this.
The reason I haven't rated the film here, yet is that I didn't know if the ending was good enough to keep up with the rest of the film which for me was definitely a full mark, 5/5.

It's getting a UK theatrical release soon - fingers crossed for a decent DVD.
Also, wonder if the 2hr 40 min cut will surface soon (with Michelle Yeoh)... or however long it originally was.

Yeah, but thinking about it, I can't see how another female lead character can be involved into the story? Maybe they did right by cutting that sub-plot out. I'd still love to see it, though.

Wilde - 3/5
Well acted, and Stephen Fry was born to play Oscar, but I didn't learn a great deal more from the film than what I already knew. I did learn, however, that Jude Law can play a spoiled brat very well.
Out Of Time - 3/5
Denzel is the mack-daddy. Dunno what that means, but he was pretty cool in the film, and Sanaa Lathan and Eva Mendes are just pretty

.
Nice, lazy Miami vibe (though it's been done plenty of times before) throughout, and whilst it's not really a surprise in terms of the 'who' or 'how', it is nicely played out.

Mission Impossible 3 3.5/5
Aye decent enough. Doubt I'd watch it again.
Was anyone else freaked out by the whole
skull bomb thing? I felt really uncomfortable - almost passed out.

The skull bomb (why is this word a spoiler anyway?) was a great idea and made the whole situations really suspenseful and exciting. Man, I was so tied to my seat.

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - 4/5
Superb drama about the clash of cultural differences. The acting was terrific.
Blow Out - 3/5
Effective little thriller from De Palma, very much enjoyed it.

Because it is a spoiler?
I know I'd be pissed if someone didn't spoilerise it for me.
But you're right - it was uber tense like.

The Human Stain 3/5
intersting film, although a little slow, Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman make an interesting mixture, although i dont think they are the perfect on screen couple, but maybe thats a good thing in the film...but it was slightly lacking in content, the story was a little confusing. but interesting nonetheless

The Adventurers
Actually not bad - but it could have been better.
Sometimes too unrealistic in my opinion.
Rosamund Kwan looks nice in this movie
3/5
PS: the title doesn´t fit the movie at all
