It's well documented, go read up on it.
Read up on what? he's gone to the well 3 times to my knowledge with this movie, which tells me something is amiss without reading anything! i have noticed a few comments on other boards though that many prefer the DC to the Final Cut (Well,as Final till he goes back again to tinker)

Terminator: Salvation (USA, 2009) – 1,5/5
This is what you get for hiring McG; a load of incredibly bad action scenes that make even the most devoted cinemagoer consider walking out of the theater. It’s the new age George Lucas syndome again; drown the viewer in cgi explosions, characters dodging flying objects coming from all directions, and loud sound. Danny Elfman’s soundtrack is free of merits. The only positive aspect is Sam Worthington’s interesting character. He manages to keep the film watchable between the action scenes, but not during them.

What I love about Blade Runner, no particular order:
1. The dystopian look
2. The ahead of it's time effects
4. The acting, it's nothing revolutionary but meets what is needed perfectly
5. All the cool and interesting characters
6. The fact it's barely dated at all, computers aside
7. The man vs. machine aspect, always an interesting thing for me
8. Roy Batty's amazing quote as
he dies
9. Many of the other dialogue is pure magic too
10. The fact it mixes Chinese and English, decades before Joss Whedon ripped it off. Something which is likely to come true
11. The fact it's never truly clear if
Deckard is a Replicant
I'm sure there are many other reasons. Blade Runner looks incredible. I just love the whole look of the film. Add in the dystopian feel and it's a winner.
Fair enough a few select forum members dislike it but put simply "you're the minority".

It's well documented Warner fucked Scott with the Theatrical Cut and he was rushed with the original Director's Cut.
Obviously the director's cut wouldn't be the Final Cut if it was made at the time but I'm willing to believe it's close enough to be the only version worth considering, although really it's pretty darn similar to the Director's Cut.
If you dislike the Final Cut, the Director's Cut isn't going to change your mind.
saltysam wrote:Hardly...Drunken Master 2 is barely known outside the genre community
And? Your point was: "unjustly overpraised films in history"
Drunken Master 2 fits perfectly. On every single Hong Kong film fan forum ever, virtually everyone wanks over it so much they collapse. It's rubbish! I cannot think of anything about Drunken Master 2 I can praise.
p.s - Oh it's mildly more entertaining than Drunken Master.

I haven't watched the dvd extras, but from what I recall reading Warner fucked Scott with the Theatrical Cut (forced him to make it easier to understand by adding a voice over and do other changes) and Scott was not (fully) personally involved with the Director's cut (he was busy making new movies) but only giving instruction to his team (remove the voice over, put the unicorn back into the film...). This is also the reason why it's the best and most original version of the film; it's closest to Scott's original intentions, and still constructed from the original elements. It's closest to the film Scott would've made (Note: as in really made... not as in made if he had the technology from the 53rd century, 700 million dollars, and Jesus Christ as his assistant director) in the first place if the producers hadn't forced him to make changes.

Shingster wrote:Why are you so desperate to strain the members of these boards into analysing it for you? Hasn't every single aspect of Blade Runner and its production not been written and talked about enough already? Documentaries, books, fansites, online essays and reviews, they're all easily found by a quick google! Honestly, anyone who says they don't know what it is about BR that the fans of the film love is either completely blinkered or being deliberately obtuse!
Hmmm, so in trying to get people's personal opinions on the film to get their perspective on what I'm obviously missing as far as enjoying hte film goes, I should just read other stuff on the internet about it? Having been posting on these boards for quite a number of years I prefer getting the thoughts of people i 'know' as at least I can relate their thoughts to their character.
Clearly the sharing of ideas, thoughts and opinions on things in this small community isn't what you think these forums should be used for. My apologies for making that mistake. I shall now make my standard answer to any question I'm asked "that can be easily found by a quick google". It's nice to be helpful!
And I'm not looking for an in depth analysis of the film, merely a brief answer on what it is they liked about it. If asked why I didn't like a film, which people do ask each other on here frequently, should I then just answer "because I didn't"? As at least that way I'm not being strained into writing a helpful, descriptive answer?
Sorry if I am going on a bit but I'm a bit annoyed as asking a simple question is not being deliberately obtuse, and I do know what a lot of the critical acclaim the film has received is for and wanting to know people's personal opinion on the matter does not make me completely blinkered either.

Well there is an answer that is exactly the sort of thing I was after. It gives actual reason and personal opinion for liking it. Thank you Brad for being helpful.
I do apologise though if you were put through far too much strain in having to think/write that answer...

I have to agree with Degen here. I also get annoyed with Romero when he says "Why discuss film X, it is crap", or something, forums are for discussing things, good or bad.

i've seen all 3 versions starting in 1982 at the ABC Lime Street...i agree i didn't change my mind.

I didn't mean him. The people who serve Deckard noodles, the writing (which I'll admit my memory is hazy exactly what it is) and the man one Batty attacks.

True. I still think the Final Cut is the best cut.

We cannot possibly know that when you say yourself he wasn't fully involved.

No problem. It's not the best breakdown why I love it so much, much of it is like Gas said. It's about the feelings and the abstract reason for loving the film.

I'd just like to point out that the Final Cut was instigated by other people who went to Ridley Scott and requested that he put together a final director's cut for the remastered Blu-ray.

I'd personally wait for Blade Runner - The Ultimate Cut due out on Green Ray in 2016.

The noodle seller speaks Japanese, too (at least mostly). The commercial on the big screen and much of the writing (ads etc.) on the streets are also in Japanese. And Tokyo was used as inspiration for future L.A.
The eye specialist was speaking Chinese I think.

Charade (1963): 4.25/5
Very good thriller which I have to say I really enjoyed. Suspensful, exciting and often clever, with some Hitchcockian twists and turns that keep you guessing. Memorable scenes include Cary Grant taking a shower.... while fully clothed. And luminous beauty Audrey Hepburn - what more could you ask for?
I'd never have guessed the twist at the end

No way, if you want tits, go check out glamour models. We certainly don't need to soil Hepburn's image by seeing her naked.

Interesting but what does that ultimately mean? It's still very much his final cut.

My mistake. It's been awhile since I was speaking it. While not as powerful, my point still stands. East meets West.

I was replying to the quote in my post, Brad, not saying that it's not a genuine final cut.

Friday The 13th-Killer Cut BD 3/5
Solid remake-cum-sequel offers nothing new but as slasher movies go it's pretty decent.
Ghostbusters BD 4.5/5
80's classic remains an entertainingly rewatchable romp, with winning performances all round,an infectious title song and a great sense of fun.the BD is nothing spectacular but actually improves as the film goes on,not demo material but easily better than the dvd.

Japanese and Hungarian are the dominant elements of the (non-English) cityspeak in Blade Runner, but it also includes a whole bunch of languages, including Spanish, German, French, Mandarin, and Korean.

2 Fast 2 Furious (USA, 2003) – 3/5
Surprisingly entertaining sequel with fun leads. Devon Aoki looks (is) as dumb as always, though. Easily a better movie than the original.
Starsky & Hutch (USA, 2004) – 2/5
Stiller and Wilson as Starsky and Hutch? Decent idea, but the film lacks punch. Fred Williamson and Starsky’s somewhat under-used Gran Torino are the best things about this mildly entertaining film.

2 Fast 2 Furious is the black sheep of the Fast and the Furious films. It feels nothing like Fast and the Furious or Tokyo Drift and I bet the fourth one too. It sorely needs Vin Diesel back, that white guy is a dreadful actor. Even the car chases are bland.
You never cease to amaze me with your left of centre opinion. It's almost as if, you read up on what generally people like and deliberately go with the opposite opinion
