Wow! Have seen this for the first time actually. I had always seen part 1 and 3 only. After I was so disappointed by part 3, I refused to give this one a go. However, I still had this in my collection and tonight I felt kinda unintelligent and needed some mindless, dumb action. I got what I wanted in a good way.

Connery doesn't have a Scottish accent. He has a 'Connery-ish' accent. It's all his own, which is why he gets to use it in every film he's in:

"The sensation you feel... it is the Quickening. Olé!"
"He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way... bejeebus."

Big Tam's accent gets thicker every year. I heard a party political broadcast for the SNP by Big Tam and it was basically all "shh" sounds.

Never heard him called that before.

Great movie. Would of been 4.5/5 but I watched it in "pieces".

Heroic Ones (1970)

The second Chang Cheh movie I´ve seen, and I really enjoyed it, apart from the boring first 20 minutes.
Although I actually don´t like 1 vs. 1000 battles, I really enjoyed the ones in this movie.

btw: It´s unbelievable how much blood can be seen in Cheh´s films... especially in this one.

The scene in which David Chiang gets torn into pieces is awful on the one and great and awesome on the other hand...

Violent Cop - 3.5/5
A very nice debut from Kitano, though not without problems. The soundtrack was a bit dull, and the film was missing that "beauty" that Kitano is famous for. Also, even though the film never got boring it felt a bit slow at times. Later on his career Kitano bacame the master of slow and minimalistic scenes, but it didn't work quite that well here. However, when it comes to bloodshed this is pure Kitano. The brutal and gritty style works well throughout the film. Kitano himself is, as usual, excellent. Even with its problems, Violent Cop is a very enjoyable and interesting film.


Boiling Point - 4/5
The first 15 minutes did not look very promising. There was nothing happening, and the film couldn't catch my interest. But then everything changes. There's still not much happening, but suddenly Kitano finds his talent and the film becomes extremely enjoyable. It's a bit hard to explain. Kitano's later masterpiece 'A Scene at the Sea' had a bit similiar atmosphere. Kitano himself gives a hilarious performance, though I kinda liked more the scenes without him. The final scene isn't very good, unfortunately. With a better ending and beginning this would've been a masterpiece.

Tintin: The Black Island - 2.5/5

An adventure of 2 halves - the 1st is good, involving the evil doctor Muler (sp?) and a counterfieting racket, the 2nd bit combines mythology of King Kong (giant ape) and the Loch Ness Monster.

King Ottocar's Sceptre - 3.5/5

Starts off really promisingly but the ending is weak. Thompson and Thomson are starting to annoy me, as well as the way they end the episode with a really bad joke and everyone laughs

A Man Apart - 3.5/5
Nice no-brain actioner. Liked Vin Diesel in this again.

firstly, i cant stand shu qi, shes so whiney and well airheaded, i mean even in gorgoeous she is the same, i re-watched the movie with my aunt, and fell asleep, the action was ok, the story was ok, and shu qi was just so damn annoying "arthur arthur arthur" shut the fuck up sheesh... is she as whiney in all her films? i wonder now why the hell i bought the dvd of this movie....

just finished watching this with my dad and aunt, got a crick in my neck from looking at the screen from an awkward angle, but it was a pretty cool movie, action-wise it was very similar to older works, but still awesome to watch, i dont like jet arrogant tho, it just isnt his style, but it kinda works here. was this based on a true story or something? since the credit s at the end and stuff... much much better than the myth

Huo Yuan-Jia did exist. In fact, his great-grandson is sueing the studio because the movie wasn't accurate enough.

The movie says that all of his children died, which isn't true at all.

Scrubs Season One 4/5

Refreshingly intelligent, funny, heart-felt and awesome. Gotta try and hunt down season two...

There's more violent ones, IMO, like 1982's Five Element Ninjas.

If you like Shaw films with extra ketchup I recommend The 14 Amazons; bloody and bloody good.

Total classic. I think this is the oldest film that I've ever seen and the restoration job is superb. It's quite a suspenseful little thriller, which later develops into a commentary on the attitudes towards criminals and the justice system.

Some of the camera shots were nicely done and I'm not sure how the filmmakers achieved them. There is one shot where the camera moves forward, through a window and moves right up to an actor's face - no cuts or pauses.

Excellent stuff and that's another to tick off my imdb top 100.

PS: How much smoking is in this film? LOL.

The Warrior (Asif Kapadia) 3/5

I'm not sure when, but the film is set during a cruel and corrupt era of Indian history. An executioner feels guilt over his endless killings and decides to flee with his son. Unfortunately, his son is killed in the escape so the father has to make the journey alone.

The story isn't overly original and I wasn't a fan of the slow pacing, especially considering its low runtime of around 86m. The Warrior's strength originates from the outstanding cinematography and the epic feel - not bad for around £2million. Worth a watch but it's not overly fulfilling.

Five Element Ninjas is only available as a bootleg for the moment...
