..and they still produce the BEST picture with the BEST black levels compared to any other TV technology on the market. The only reason i bought an LCD projection is because i wanted a larger screen...but nothing compares to good old CRT tube.

Why would anyone want a CRT? The quality is shite compared with LCD and they don't support HD. Oh they're huge too.

They're cheap for a reason. I'd get one for the kitchen or spare bedroom but otherwise no thanks.

The short-comings of other display technologies are too great to bother with IMO at this current point time.

LCD - has motion-blurring on fast moving stuff. Eg action movie scenes.
Plasma - super susceptible to burn-in (FAR more so than Rear-projection). What a fucking joke.
Projector - bulbs cost a zillion dollars to replace once they burn out, thus making them very uneconomical and unpractical IMO. I want something that can I catch everyday TV, DVDs and play consoles on which doesn't need $800 blown on it every two years.
Rear-projection - Highly susceptible to burn-in. Bulkier than even CRT.

I'll stick with our current CRT telly until either plasma or LCD is perfected or a better practical HDTV display technology comes along.

I can live with only playing next gen consoles in 480p/576p. But otherwise it's pointless at this point, the HD disc formats are eons away from actually taking off (and if they do - prolly become a niche format like DVD-A, SACD or laserdisc which the mainstream ignores; thus the software remains expensive.) Plus I reckon it won't be another 10-15 years before they become the standard for free TV broadcast in NZ.

Meh. Once they're put in position there's no need to bother touching them.

lol.....lets not, i dont have enough dvds or watch enough tv to warrant that kind of expense, plus im already saving for a darkroom and new pc and i dont havea job because im lazy lol

and...my bedroom tv works fine, the 14" monitor is for my pc until we can afford to buy a new one since our old one has issues


man i would love to be you guys who see mto have endless streams of money!! i would love and LCD tv and TFT monitor but theres just no way i could afford anything like this!

CRT still produces the best picture at this point in time.

watched this alstnight. i expected to getsomething like 13 going on 30 and big etc. and a hell of a lot more besides! it jsut compares nothing with the us movies. great great movie, now becoming one of my favourites. Andy Lau was really cool. just bummed that the extras didnt have english subs

Somewhat reminiscent of "Pinocchio" or "AI: Artificial Intelligence", its about an unhappy, heartbbroken young boy through the loss of his mom, named Satoru, who has withdrawn to his room, who uses a robot tool nicknamed Hinokio to communicate with the outside world. He does go to school, find fellowship and through an encounter with a girl, Jun, is able to experience human touch once again, and build a relationship with his dad.

Wait Til You're Older was more 3/5 material for me. Andy is as solid as you expect him to be. Can't go wrong but a little dramatic restraint on Teddy Chen's behalf could've benfitted the overall effect. Give kudos for some unexpectedly brave choices in the script considering it's mainstream material.

I really don't know why this should be funny, but it is Maybe its the surreal observations? The slightly stoned delivery? I loved the bit about Argos ("The laminated book of dreams!" ), the revelation he auditioned for Gimli in LOTR, and the songs he makes up are inspired, including a bitter love song that has the line "The duck lies shredded in a pancake, drowning in the hoi sin sauce of your lies" or comparing the BBC news theme to a rave/techno song - my favourite was probably the hilarious spoof of Kraftwerk ("Ja! Das Hokey Kokey!" )

I have a couple of Bill Bailey t-shirts. I wore the one that says "Part Troll" to school one day. My students didn't have a clue what the reference was, but they did think I was a total weirdo.

Still, as much as I like Part Troll, I think I prefer Bewilderness. And I could watch my Black Books DVDs over and over again, laughing at BB as Manny!

In my day even the pupils wouldn't have been allowed to wear comedy t-shirts... never mind the teachers. A long skirt and cardigan it was for Young Miss and we saplings were all the better for it. Haarumphhh...

Only on Fridays are we allowed to dress down. M-Th it's business as usual.

This is what i thought also, but i had a high deffinition CRT for years and i can personally vouch for the newer LCD projection screens not having this problem. There is really no motion blur what-so-ever. I love my LCD, the only problem i have with it is the black levels, which are not nearly as "pitch black" as on my CRT (even with the contrast corrector and advanced iris features on). Most people do not even notice this, but i got very used to have ultra solid blacks, espically with the black bars for movies shot in 2:35:1 (as strange as that sounds).

Aside from that, they produce a beautiful, motion-blur free picture that rivals CRT.

FYI, LD, the american make-up artist on Wait Til You're Older is Mark Garbarino who has now worked on that film in addition to Running On Karma and recently Home Sweet Home (some excellent stuff there) in Hong Kong. Has a very solid resume from America as well, including work on Six Feet Under, Babylon 5 et etc.

One Of The Lucky Ones 3.5/5

One of them age old inspirational stories about one person overcoming all odds...bla bla bla. Well, it isn't bad at all, only awfully rushed at times as Clifton Ko recycles most of his actors from I Have A Date With Spring and delivers the story of Ching Man-Fei (Alice Lau), the first visually impaired Chinese woman to attain a University degree. Touching.

Los Debutantes - 4/5

Good film, enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Apart from the hot women and nudity , I liked the way the story is told from different peoples points of view and how the narrative jumps back and forth to explain more of the story.

I didnt know the film was Chilean BTW, I thought it was Spanish.
