Aye I havent seen Amores Perros (sp?), would I still enjoy Los Debutantes? (I'm sure I will, I added it to my rental queue based on the poster! )

bit of a guilty pleasure this one,virtually plotless but with some surprisingly gory action,the rock is actually very good in this one and the first person shooter sequence is very well done

It's rather difficult not to enjoy it tbh. You should find it reasonably entertaining... Also check out Amores Perros.

What a lousy movie but it did have some excellent song and dance numbers. It's also faaaaar too long (like 3 hours). I reckon I could make a decent 90min movie out of it with a bit of editing.

Totally overwhelming emotional experience. The power of the human spirit is truly marvelous. Wonderfully photographed and lovely use of music. I'm telling you, I was sobbing like a baby at the end.

Huh? Isn't the ending supposed to be a happy one?

Three Kings - 4/5

A comic and surprisngly funny war film set in the aftermath of the first Gulf War that also has some rather shocking and emotionally poignant moments (now that we have the benefit of further hindsight with what is happening in Iraq at the moment).
I liked the use of the distorted color palette and the uses of slow-mo and other effects. It really added to the atmosphere.
The film starts when the Gulf War is over. Four American soldiers (George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze), are determined to take home more than sand fleas, so go off into the Iraqi desert to find millions in stolen Kuwaiti gold. However, they are plunged into a democratic uprising that spins the day, and their lives, out of control.

V for Vendetta - 4/5
Very good. A few bold moves for a hollywood production which i really like. Raises some serious questions about the future of human society. Portman does a good job in her role although her british accent sounds alittle off. Dialog is all very Wachowski-ish, and can be looked at as a criticism of a strength depending on the viewer. Overall great stuff.

Bill Bailey: Live - Part Troll (Channel 4) - 4.5/5

I don't know why this is so funny (maybe its the expressions he has?) but it is From the observations about Argos ("the laminated book of Dreams!") to the superb Kraftwerk spoof ("Ja! Das Hokey Kokey!" ) its' great fun.

Heavens Soldiers (2nd viewing) - 4/5 (previously 3/5)
I was in a Asian historical epic mood tonight so i decided to watch Heavens Soldiers again and see if it worked better for me the 2nd time around. It did. Not to say that the flaws i talked about in my original review don't exist, but i enjoyed it as a whole much more this time.

This very well may be because i've developed quite an interest in Korean history over the past two years, after watching Emperor of the Sea and various historical films.

Anyway, Heavens Soldiers is not without substantial flaws but i think its a fun movie with a fucking amazing soundtrack and an awesome ending, and i'm officially raising my mark to 4/5

Well I've only seen two Miyazaki films (Howl's and Spirited Away), so I wouldn't know.

I've only seen four... the ones you mention and Totoro + Mononoke.

Bisc you should see 2 of his early works - Castle In The Sky + Nausicaa, which are pretty good also

Brokeback Mountain - 4/5

Very good film, was really surprised how much I liked it. Slow moving in places but its not boring, its' quite a gentle film.
The acting from both Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger is excellent, it may be a strange thing to say but the make up is convincing as well and really made be belive they had got older over time.
As you say Brad, I think the film is a love story first, then it is about homosexuality. I don't think the two men mention they are homosexual/bi/whatever (they don't use any term) through the whole film. Whilst this issue is important in a way because a) it shows the attitude by some of small town America at that time towards homosexuality and how their affair affects the men's families and b) also shows ultimately why they can't be together, I would submit (again as you say Brad) that the film would have worked without the two characters having feelings for each other, it would still have worked if it was about a man and a woman. Maybe it wouldn't have been quite the SAME movie but I think most plotpoints in the film - except for the fact their love is forbidden - could apply just as well.
(surprise surprise my mum thought I said it would be the SAME film if you ignored the two characters sexuality but I did not!) She ended up accepting what I said eventually - "Ignore the men's sexuality, you would still have a good film"
I noticed that most of my mum's friends said they were uncomfortable with the love scenes between Jake and Heath in the film. Apart from the very first one I guess (because I didnt know what was going to happen) I was OK with them, those scenes arent very strong at all IMO and you don't really see anything, hell, there are straight sex scenes in the film that are more explicit than that.

BTW the girl who played Jake Gyllenhaal's wife was HOT!

I suspect it's an age thing. You'd think we saw actual male sex.

IMO Sin City is very overrated. A decent rental but really no better than your average action flick.

Take away the visual style and you've got little left. Most of the women are treated like sexual objects too which I didn't much care for.

Me neither TBH. I only rented Sin City as well.
