BTW Brad (or anyone) do you know what the translation of the Greek chorus is at the end of the film?

Swing Girls 4.5/5

Dudes this Japanese film is like toe-tappingly awesome. Fantastic comedy with plenty of 'laugh out loud' moments. Perfect 'feel-good' entertainment.

Thank you Grim!

i'd heard glowing reviews for this one but i thought it was average at best, worth a rent but no more. btw the dvd has absolutely no extra features whatsoever so fans of the movie might want to wait for the inevitable SE.
I'm really looking forward to this one... How does it compare to Shane Black's films as writer?

Lethal Weapon
The Last Boy Scout
The Long Kiss Goodnight
i preferred all three of those to this one tbh.

hey,

Home Sweet Home 3.5/5

Not a high water mark akin to Love Battlefield this time for Soi Cheang but an affecting horror-drama nonetheless. Takes a little while to survive its weak setup but when Shu Qi and Karena Lam (virtually unrecognizeable under Mark Garbarino's excellent make-up) takes center stage, the themes and emotions reaches satisfying levels. By mixing it up nicely akin to his early movie Diamond Hill, Soi makes sure that he isn't being "the horror director" either. Not by now.

Salaam Bombay! 4.5/5.... maybe 5/5

Until now, I have usually seen Mira Nair illustrate India's beauty... now she reveals the country's ugliness. This gut-wrenchingly depressing film provides a voice for Bombay's street children. I really hope with India's economic boom, some of the rewards will be shared amongst the country's poorest. Pardon me for being skeptical but I somehow doubt it...

According to DVD Beaver it means "faith, hope and love" - just those 3 words?
I thought the transfer and subs on the R1 were fine BTW.

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance - 4.5/5

WOW :o Amazing film.
Had some similarity with "Oldboy" but it was told through the eyes of a woman (had a similar revenge theme to Oldboy too). Though I felt the film was less violent than "Oldboy".
The soundtrack is brilliant.

Does anyone find it really hard to get the DVDs back on the platters once you've watched them? :? (I have the Korean 2 discer). Really very annoying.

All of these films are wonderful classics of HK cinema in my opinion.

Did you notice how they made fun of Jackie, Willie Chan and Papa Chan in "High Risk"?

I'm just staggered at how the sublime Mr Vampire gets the same rating as High Risk?? :?

Stylish but boring and soulless action flick.

I had to send the disc back to CD WOW rentals because the fucking disc refused to play after 52 mins or so, breaking up, stuttering and finally freezing.
I'll admit I know nothing whatsoever about the comics... ;)

BTW do the extras on Lady Vengeance 2 discer have English subs?
Anyone else have trouble putting the discs back in after getting them out of the case? :)

Okay, 3.5 out of 5. Maybe I was a little harsh. Its a bit rich from you Mark. ;) I can think of loads of films where you gave very average marks, which I would consider to be a lot better. ;)
