If you haven't watched SFMV, yet, let me tell you that it is nowhere near the style of "OldBoy". It is a very good and powerful film, don't get me wrong, but don't expect it to be made in the same style of "OldBoy". SFMV flopped at the Korean box office, but was acclaimed internationally. It's a very calm, yet very harsh film. I liked it as the storyline was really good.

And what about SFLV?
So it's different fine but what about being as good? Is Oldboy miles better than the other two or just different?
Is it more in tone with JSA: Joint Security Area? As I thought that was decent enough but really average. Nothing outstanding, like I said decent enough.
Is SFMV more violent?
Cheers btw.

Thanks LD

I'd like to get SFMV at some point to complete the Trilogy.

If I had to throw away two films of the trilogy, it would definitely be SFMV and SFLV as I like "OldBoy" the ,ost of the three. SFMV is a really good film. Really powerful and depressing as well. It is a film you won't be watching again soon after the first time you watched it. Not because it is bad or tasteless or anything like that, but just because it showcases the tragedies of all people involved in the storyline. None of the main characters are really bad or evil and yet they do things that would get you into prison. At some points you think that you would do the same.

"JSA" is completely differenrt in its visual style. It is kinda similar as a tragedy happens to both sides where there aren't really any bad guys.
Is SFMV more violent?
I'd say the same amount of violence, but different violence. While in "OldBoy"
teeth get crushed out with a hammer in SFMV different acts of violence happen. They might be as graphic, but not as stylish as in "OldBoy". Does that make sense?

Yes it does thanks. I'm going to check out both.
I've just ordered SFLV and will order SFMV after the guys at Madman have updated my queries thread. I've asked what extras it will have, if they can tell me. It's early days.
How can a eating a live squid get passed the BBFC but killing a fish cannot??? (The Isle). It's gross how this is a delicacy in Korea. The idea of tentacles wrapping themselves around you, yuck!
Incidentally it maybe different from film/theatre but killing a fish isn't necessarily an illegal offence in the UK as it's considered fish don't feel pain. I disagree with this but that's the law.

Boiling Point - 2.5/5
This film was a big mess. It had it's moments and became significantly better once Kitano's insane supporting character showed up around the 50 minute point. Kitano's scenes were fucking hillarious. The ending was bloody weird and frankly stupid, it's like Kitano fished it out of David Lynch's dustbin.
Aw well most film masters have misfires, this was one of Kitano's.

Fearless (Huo Yuan-Jia) : 4,5/5
Good action scenes, awesome acting by Jet Li.
Too bad the storyline was so linear and predictable.
Huo Yuan-Jia is no Wong Fei-Hung, that's for sure, but it sure beats any of Jet's american films.

Actually a 1/3 of them were French films designed for English-speaking audiences.

French movies? They were American. Sure the director/writers were French but the films weren't "recognisably French"

Made by French filmmakers with French funding. Sounds like French films to me.

With American/English actors for the American market.

Jet's films for Luc Besson were largely French; but like 'Leon' happened to be designed for the International market. Not American.

A great moment in The Producers has to be when the big German Liebkind insists that Hitler was a better painter than Churchill.
"Hitler, there was a painter, he could paint a whole apartment in one afternoon, two coats!".

The Proposition 4/5
Aye like I said before, it's a decent modern western.
Survive Style 5+ 4/5
LOL at this Japanese film man. It's similar to Takashi Miike's stuff but a lot more bright & colourful. Beautiful, experimental work with surreal visuals and erratic humour. Vinnie Jones was pretty funny in this.

The Hills Have Eyes - 4/5
Very good very gory remake which is far superior to the original. Interesting creative idea to use the after effects of nuclear testing as the cause of the antagonists being the way they are. Lots of stupid characters (like all horror films), lots of gore, screenplay follows the original closely but makes a few very good changes, very well casted, overall good stuff. I think its safe to say that Alexandre Aja will have a future in Hollywood.

kiss kiss,bang bang-2.5/5
i'd heard glowing reviews for this one but i thought it was average at best, worth a rent but no more. btw the dvd has absolutely no extra features whatsoever so fans of the movie might want to wait for the inevitable SE.

The Weather Man 4/5
Great character study of an individual facing all sorts of family trouble. Nice use of metaphors to tie in the weather with the unpredictabilty of Spritz's life. Love the visuals and it left a satisfying feeling at the end.
I love it when Hollywood can produce small dramas like this. Other great examples are In Good Company and Matchstick Men.

I'm really looking forward to this one... How does it compare to Shane Black's films as writer?
Lethal Weapon
The Last Boy Scout
The Long Kiss Goodnight

Mark Kermode gave it good review in his podcast/radio show. Here's his text review, I suspect that's similar (can't be arsed reading it).
