I've got to agree with romero on this one, don't own a PS3 myself but at the start of the year I went without my s350 for two months as I was being dicked around waiting to get it modded for Region A playback, and two of my friends would regularly bring their PS3 round to watch the odd film. It's definitely too noisy for my likes, but then I am someone who strives for silent systems, not because like romero I'm extremely sensitive, but because given the choice between silence and noise, I know what I prefer. I have built myself a pretty quiet PC, own probably the quietest HD projector on the market and make sure my PVR is not in use when watching films. I must say though the PS3 is nowhere near as loud as the XBOX360, that's like a fucking hoover going off!

Oh and improper venitlation was never an issue whenever I've seen the PS3 in action either.

My Tevion doesn't really make any noise except during loading and menu instigation. Mind you I watch films with headphones so even if it did it probably wouldn't bother me as much as some.

I could never watch movies with headphones. You lose so much. In your situation I prefer to just turn the volume down or use TV speakers, which no one can hear outside of the room you're in.

Headphones are sooooooooo much better than regular TV sound. You get the audio pumped clearly into your ear for maximum clarity and impact (and I like to watch action films loud). How can TV speakers be better?? I use on old receiver - seriously it's older than I am - and plug the headphones into that. Sounds great for me.

She's often like this with stuff she doesnt understand. I don't know whats going to happen now TBH.

Ah, well I won't be able to check Currys/PC World for you until next Thursday now, but by then I'd imagine they'll all be gone.

Because headphones (even good ones) are cramped and you lose all spacial awareness. It's by the very nature of headphones. I also hate having headphones stuck on my head when I'm concentrating on a movie. I only ever use them on my MP3 Player.

Sure TV speakers are rubbish quality but still easily better than headphones. You could of course just watch movies at a normal hour .

What's not to think about? It's a decent player at a great price. For that price you could even make it BD MR and still have paid a decent price.

They didn't have any S350 models in anyway when I popped round Currys/PC World earlier. I spotted one of those Samsung BD-P4600 players on the shelves and I'm not impressed by the design of that at all, I know the point of it that you wall mount it, but why the hell did they put the disc slot on the side and not the front? Has the designer never seen a TV/Video cabinet before in his life?

On the side means you can slot it in, instead of a tray that pops out. It looks neater. Not that I'm keen on the idea either.

Eh? You can put a slot on the front or back of the player just the same as on the side! Most slot loading drives out there are front loading.

Having a slot on the front would mean it has to be at least the thickness of a disc.

I have said no way I am going over the top at all, it makes the most noise out of everything I have ever owned or used, how is that over the top You sit 4 foot away from a PS3 not in a cabinet and tell me it does not get on your tits, you have to turn up the sound louder for one to get rid of the droning little fan, that's an instant fail.

Mind you I should just stick it in another room then the bugger would be silent.

If I buy something like Total Recall UK BD, would I still be able to hear it? On DVD Compare it says "DTS HD Master Audio" in the audio part, would this come out as normal DTS on my amp?
Was thinking of maybe buying Res. Dogs BD as well, and Matrix

@ Grim: I've told you several times ALL Lossless formats are backwards compatible . DTS-HD MA and HR in particular have a Legacy DTS track encoded inside them. You'll notice no difference from actual Legacy DTS. Technically speaking PCM isn't backwards compatible but they always include a second DD5.1 track too. So all formats will be fine.

Did you spot the prices over at HMV? For The Matrix.

The width isn't though . To be a front slot loader it would have to be width of a disc, at least. Obviously the thickness is slim, that's why it's called a slot loader .

TrueHD gets down-converted and DTS-HD has an Legacy DTS soundtrack encode inside it. When set to Legacy mode (not the actual word), your Player picks up on this or it's sent out as DTS-HD but the Legacy Amp only spots this.

I've been over this with Grim many times, pay attention! . My Amp is only Legacy DTS/DD5.1 too.

Perhaps I hear the film I'm watching instead? The human brain has a knack of ignoring background sounds it doesn't need to concentrate on, which is why people can bear ticking clocks...

Romero's original point still stands though, the PS3 is considerably louder during playback of a film than any DVDplayer i've ever seen and also the Sony-s350 BD player.

What the fuck are you talking about? A disc is circular, it takes up the same area whether you load it in the front, side, or back
