* Audio Commentary by Richie Warren (Fuel) and Dan Joyce (Dirty Sanchez)
That is bar none the most pathetic excuse for an extra I've ever heard of.

I'm so glad I have no interest in this movie.

He he true :D at least Bret Ratner (on some other HKL DVD) has limited knowledge of HK cinema and has worked with Jackie Chan.

hey,
Oh man Chapman To is awful.
More than often, he's not welcome in a film but I do really look forward to seeing him in Edmond Pang's Isabella. If someone's decided to take To seriously, I think he can respond and Pang certainly has directed workable performances from untested talents before (Gillian Chung, Daniel Wu in Beyond Our Ken for instance)

bradavon wrote:Oh man Chapman To is awful. They're both awful actually, easy to get them mixed up but yeah Chapman To is far worse. Pop stars can't act, actors can't sing. Why do they try?
Yi-Long wrote:Yeah, I'm nitpicky, but I'd much rather have a barebones uncut DVD with the correct ratio and soundtrack, and no extras and DTS, instead of having lots of extra's and DTS, but it being fucked up because it's got a new soundtrack or something.
Only you'd come up with such a completely ridiculous argument like that. It's not even as if you're paying for them, in a few months it will be cheap. To please you everyone else has to lose out on extras that may like (I'd rather have cack extras than no extras, at least I can choose then).

If they had given us a bare-bones DVDs we'd have had no idea if the extras were any good.

I don't mean to be rude but that really is stupid.
Just like the next guy, I like extras on my DVDs which I can enjoy. But stuff like this piss me off. They go through all the trouble of hiring some musicians/bands to create a whole new soundtrack no-one asked for, while leaving out many other extras that were on the HK disc. Why waste all that time, effort and money on a new soundtrack? Just use that for getting the disk right.
Yi-Long wrote:I perhaps misread your post though, as I thought the news said it would have a NEW soundtrack...
But you're saying it also has the original soundtrack included? that's very good news then :)
Are you telling me you didn't even bother to click on the link? For crying out loud you go off on one moaning and you've not read a word of what I typed or even looked at the link???

No offence but seriously that is really stupid. You're more interested in news you've not read about than news you have.

Originally I missed the first line where it said "Original 5.1" but at least I read it.[/quote]

Well... I just read
Bad news guys by the looks of it Contender/Hong Kong Legends/Premier Asia have done an "Ong-Bak" and messed with the audio for Intial D:

# UK Music Soundtrack with Cantonese Dolby Digital 5.1
# UK Music Soundtrack with Cantonese DTS 5.1
, then quickly clicked the link, didnt bother checking those specs again as you had already mentioned them in your post. On that other site I went straight to the user comments and quickly glanced them over.
It's not like I studied either post or page, as I already have the movie, so I just picked out the key-words like
Bad news guys by the looks of it Contender/Hong Kong Legends/Premier Asia have done an "Ong-Bak" and messed with the audio for Intial D:
Now, seeing everything in perspective, that is NOT pulling an 'Ong-Bak'. As they included the original score.
Doesnt change the fact that it's ridiculous to a: make a new soundtrack for this movie, and b: let those guys do a commentary for the movie.

Chapman was ok in part 1 of "Infernal Affairs". They went over the top with his characterisation of Keung in part 2, though, that's true.

bradavon wrote:Pop stars can't act, actors can't sing. Why do they try?
Chapman To is a pop star? Didn't know that.

I wouldn't generalise that though. Jackie Chan is a very good actor and singer. So is Jacky Cheung and so used to be Leslie Cheung.

thelostdragon wrote:The only DVD box I'd buy due to the extras although I really dislike the films, would be "The Matrix"-boxset.
Why?
Because the extras are so awesome that they are worth the price of the set in my opinion...

...from the sales. :D

Knetan wrote:I do really look forward to seeing him in Edmond Pang's Isabella.
"Isabella" has been shipped out to me a few days ago and I'm really looking forward to that one as well.

So true Ken! And that's what I think happened to Edison Chen while shooting "Infernal Affairs 2". He was taken more seriously and hence he gave the best performance of his whole career IMO.

The funny thing is the Original soundtrack has lots of English RAP music anyway (or so I here).

Please start a new thread to continue discussion it's going way off topic.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Force Entertainment (no idea if they're any good) on Region 4 released Initial D back in November which looks to be as good as the R1 but PAL of course (nice to be able to choose):

1. 2 Discs
2. 2.35:1 Anamorphic
3. Original Cantonese DTS/DD5.1 (No English dub)
4. English subs
5. The same HK Extras with English subs

About $22/£10/17€ delivered: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/783053 , so a bit more expensive.

They suck for the most part. They do a lot of cult horror releases. They've made the best release of Texas Chainsaw Massacre to date (the most extras of any release), but the transfer is terrible so it's moot. Best to approach them in a case by case basis.

More info from that DVD Times info courtesy of a DVD Times member:
Ok, there seems to be a bit of confusion on this due to a 'less than descriptive' press release..but the commentary (or bits I have been priveledged to hear), is not only very funny, but VERY informative, as Ritchie Fuel, knows his cars, and drift racing. So we have an expert on drift racing doing a commentary on drift racing..kinda fits doesn't it ? Yes HKL are obviously promoting this to gear-heads rather than just Asian fim fans, but it is a racing movie !!
The new music in the film is very good, way better than Jay Chou's limp rap, (which if you actually watch the editing of the film seems tacked on as well).

On the HKL site there's an "offer" (!) it says you can get "3 Asian films" for £4.97 but they are only Ong Bak Single disc, Brotherhood Single Disc and and Ichi The Killer Single disc.

HKL releasing PA titles as single discs when did this happen? As far as I can see the single discs dont even have DTS.

It's common DVD company practise. I'm sure they're just reissues so will definitely have DTS (Did Ichi have DTS though?).

For those who don't care about extras it's a surprisingly good bargain, except Ichi is cut of course.

I misunderstood that deal - thinking it was £4.97 for all three. It's £4.97 each.

Their release of Ichi is cut, thus moot.

HKL have now changed the Who's The Daddy promotion and you can get 25% off 1 order, considering their prices this is still rubbish.

Would those be the CD WOW prices you manage to pull from thin air? I've yet to actually find these sorts of prices you cite :D

Warrior King (Ton Yum Goong - sp?), has been passed uncut by the BBFC - 109m 59s, rated 18. Whether thats an international cut or whatever, I'm not sure.

I suspect it will be the fully uncut version as no International Cut has surfaced yet. When two cuts exist and Premier Asia/HKL use it the HK DVD is almost always also the International Cut (Musa, Volcano High and recently Crying Fist for example).

The HK DVD isn't cut so I don't expect this to be. It's already passed uncut from the BBFC so that hurdle is out of the way.

The score will probably be altered though. That said if their recent Initial D is anything to go by I'm expecting:

* Altered audio DD5.1 and DTS
* Original DD5.1 only
* A second disc of extras

Considering the Korean DVD only has/had DD5.1 we're not losing much "I guess" by not getting DTS. If it is as I say I'll pick it up and probably ignore the Altered audio but will probably also sample it.

I just hope Warrior King comes out on a big release in cinemas so I can drag my ffiend to see it and show hism some real fighting :D I get into UGC cinemas now so it better bloody show there :(

Probibly best to turn up late for the film mind you :D an hour into the film will be better for most people as it does take bloody ages to get going, but ince it does it does not stop.
