ICE-angel wrote:But will that branched "thai" version use the original film music ? If it's branched, I suppose not.
If the Oz Ong-Bak comes with the Besson score, I wouldn't bother with it even if it's uncut. The Besson score, which loses about 9/10 of the impact in all the action scenes it's used, damages the film as much or even more than whatever cuts, incredibly as it may be - having seen both versions, I can testify that.
My advice is go for the cheap but good HK or Thai discs and burn your own backup with an english subtitle stream, or ask a friend to do it for you if you don't have a burner.
If you actually read the thread Brad linked to you'll know that it isn't branched that way.
* Both cuts on a dual layer disc (like many R1 DVDs with both WS & 4:3)?
Therefore the uncut version is original in every way, including score.

More updates from the useful as ever Chris @ Madman:
I asked:
Can I confirm both cuts will have Thai DD5.1?
And he replied:
Yup, both cuts will have DD5.1
So at last we can all get our hands on the fully uncut version in a respectable manner.
Even if the R1 is the DC (which is very unlikely) it's only a 1 disc release (this we know) so won't have half the extras the R4 will. It's likely it will be the DC because also it has some featurettes from some American rapper.
The UK R2 PA DVD will probably have DTS but will have a new score!
Yi-Long wrote:Fuck it. If no-one release this movie as it should be released, I'll be going bootleg...
I already paid for the Thai version and I'm not gonna waste my money on this movie again unless its a (near) perfect release!
I'd also take Memetic's advise!

To be ultra clear:
ONG-BAK
2 DISCS
Luc Besson International Cut or Director's Cut *
Anamorphic 1.85:1
Thai DD5.1 or Thai DD2.0 (probably) **
Removable English subtitles
Extras (3Hrs):
'Born For the Fight' Thai boxing Documentary
Making of ONG BAK / Behind the Scenes
Tony Jaa Interview / Director Interview
Hong Kong & French film premieres
French music video
Storyboard comparison
Rehearsals
Muay Thai 9 moves demonstration
3D Animatic comparison

* Both cuts on a dual layer disc, like many R1 DVDs with both WS & 4:3. Meaning each cut will cover a single layer and NO branching will be utilised (i.e - no pausing)
** Both cuts will have Thai DD5.1

No chance of NTSC>PAL conversion either.

It's possible but unlikely. The Thai DVD is PAL I understand.

It certainly is.

Having 2 complete movies on 1 dual-layer disc, 1 layer for each movie, doesnt sound to me like the AV quality is going to be very good...

Stick to your Chinese or Thai only subtitled DVD then

If you rip the video and DD audio off the unsubtitled Thai DVD it
almost fits on one layer anyway.

Exactly! Just because a film is on a single layer it doesn't mean it will be low quality.
The vast majority of dual layer discs are really just that because of dubs and extras. If you rip a dual layer film most of the time it only needs compressing by 10-15% if that.
That's not to say it doesn't help but it may not hinder either.

Yeah, but the Thai DVD wasnt all the great (good? yeah) in the AV department anyway, so I certainly wouldnt want THAT transfer -COMPRESSED!- ...
I already paid over 10 bucks for the movie, so it would be insane to spend that kinda money AGAIN on a version that's still not 'perfect', cause it wastes half the disc with a version I'll never watch anyway ... I aint giving them money for releasing a shitty version! They should just release the version we, or at least 90% of us, want.... which is the original thai version and nothing else.

Yi-Long no offence but why do you always constantly whine at what clearly isn't going to change. Fair enough have your say but Madman have read your comments over at their forum and decided to go ahead so clearly they disagree.
I imagine it's higher than 10% of people who want the Luc Besson cut! The point for me at least is the R4 is going to be the best version for people who need English subs + What other version are you going to buy?
You could get the cut R1, the altered (new score but uncut) UK R2, the non-English subbed HK R3, the non-English subbed Korean R3 or the non-English subbed Thai R3. All of which are dual layer though!
See my point!

Violent Cop R1 vs. UK R2 vs. R4 -
http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/show ... p?t=374116
The R4 looks much better and I hear Madman create new subs so those "should" be okay also.
p.s - Sorry Mark I can't post directly here as it's full of caps.

Asking for a NORMAL (=UNCUT) version to be released is whining!?
I think it's a pretty normal request...
I'm not going to do anything though... I'll keep my Thai DVD, which obviously won't be getting all that much play-time due to it not being subtitled, which is a huge shame ofcourse, but none of the other releases are worth spending money on, cause I aint interested in these alternate versions...
I'm sure many people will buy these cut/fucked up versions, mainly because many also dont even KNOW it's been changed...
I'll wait 10-15 years for a GOOD version, instead of giving my money, thus encouraging, to these companies for these practices...

My point merely being the DVD is now soon to be released it's pointless whining.
I agree what you ask for is normal but ultimately it's now futile.

Maybe... just maybe... the dutch release will be the uncut, thai version with original soundtrack... and subs...
It's also 105 minutes (same as PAL thai DVD), so could be good news.

Fingers crossed. I actually bet based on past experience it will be.
What is odd is the Luc Besson IC is still in Thai. I'm surprised no dub was more wildly used.
p.s - How annoying an English dub but not subs

I agree about the dvd not having english subs is very annoying. I always hate it when another country releases a good DVD, and it doesnt have the rights to also use english subs... bastards.
Just look at all those brilliant dvds the french have gotten...
Fingers crossed this dutch release will be the right one

The release date was originally this week btw, but now it's been portponed till half august or something, so they might be planning a 2 disc special edition or something...
We also have a supposedly pretty good 3 disc Old Boy release here in Holland, but I havent bought it (yet?)

Taken from the Madman link above for "Bride with White Hair":
"Part 1 is anamorphic 2,35:1. Part 2 is only letterboxed 1,85:1"

. I didn't expect non-anamorphic from Eastern Eye! It's cropped also. Does this make the R1 best for BWWH2 (2.35:1 non-anamorphic)?

R1 DVD is 1.85:1 too so good luck finding a better one.

I'm thinking it's meant to be shown at home in 1.85:1 as all DVDs seem to be these. IMDB says 2.35:1 but that doesn't mean it's meant that way at home.

Violent Cop R4 has been confirmed to have fine subtitles all the way through!
Same source as before. This easily beats the R1 and UK R2!

Are the Eastern Eye DVDs R4 only or are they R0 - like Siren's releases - or R2/4 combined like HKLs
