You could see the final twist coming after 5 minutes into the film and two legends were so wasted. Without them the film would have been a 1/5.

I loved the first half of the film set at the Boot Camp, Lee Ermey would steal every scene that he was in. Vincent D'onofrio was great too.

The 2nd half of the film set in Vietnam was decent. The expert filmmaking made these sequences seem a lot more exciting than they should've been, considering that they're only squaring off against one enemy.

TBH, the film is over-rated. There's certainly better War films out there, like Apocalypse Now (original cut) and Cross of Iron.

I've just watched this for the first time since it came out, and Ahnoldt's acting is worse than ever lol. It gave me quite a few laughs, and good God those special effects are terrible for a film released in 2000!

The HD transfer is pretty decent, but nothing special.

The problem with 'FMJ' is that the first half is so strong and potent that what comes after seems underwhelming and routine.

All the clips I've seen of it, it looks nothing like Vietnam . I'll watch it one day.

Wow, I didn't expect it to be that good! Everything about it seemed so perfect, including its HD presentation. I now have my faith in Pixar fully restored after the turd that was 'Cars' threw a spanner in the works. Their upcoming film, 'Up' looks good and I'm looking forward to it.

I now have a strange urge to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey

Havent seen Cars yet. That's the only Pixar I havent seen.
Have you seen Ratattouille (sp?)!? Seen that last month orso and REALLY liked it alot.

I liked Ratatouille, it had a good story, characters etc but not nearly as funny as other Pixars.
Haven't seen Cars yet. It just looks like, well - Talking cars to me.

Yep I've got Ratatouille and I like it, it's very good but not a masterpiece (which WALL-E possibly is). I'd give it no less than a 4/5.

Cars is just so kid-oriented and has really annoying characters.

A soundstage yeah, it looks fine to me though. Not 100% realistic, but the film is a weird dreamy thing anyway, and I love it.

It looked okay to me too. I thought Eyes Wide Shut was Shite!

Hmm, didn't really remember much of this one, maybe I never saw it all back in the day. It's all right, some nice locations but not one of Bond's best. The Blofeld pre-title scene was hilarious when he got dropped down the chimney

I hate that bit. So stupid. And some claim that this film is a return to gritty realism after Moonraker. The Maggie Thatcher impersonator talking to a Parrot is even worse.

Mad as a bag of spiders... outrageous gorefest is quite good fun to watch. As someone who has never shared the true Grindhouse experience and isn't an exploitation fan some elements (such as the missing reel and print degredation) didn't seem necessary... I wonder how I would have responded to the cleaned-up version shown on BD? Although it too is missing the AWOL reel midway. A gimmick that won't bear repated viewings. Can't say I'd sit thru it again but I laughed at the dark humour (it's hard not to smile at MacGowan's machine gun leg antics) and appreciated what Rodrioguez was trying to do. Fast-paced and full of gore this is sure to please fans of Zombies movies and all-purpose cinematic B-movie trash.

Hey the cleaned up version does look amazing when you play it after the shitty looking version, pretty great kind of extra that on the Blu Ray. I never expected to see it thats for sure, so when I first heard about it, it was a shock. I have yet to watch the full film cleaned up, but I intended to

APOCALYPTO - Well-made, visceral action thriller from Mel Gibson presents a backdrop and set of characters we're not accustomed to. This gives the film an inherent interest and for a while I was absorbed. After the village is captured I thought the pace started to flag a bit - not tremendously just a bit - and found myself wanting to know a bit more about who these tribes were and why they hated each other? They all looked alike to me which made indentification (and understanding) trickier than it might have been. The third act chase stuff was exciting and gory (actually the whole film is gory) and there's no doubt that Gibson is an accomplished action filmmaker.
