If it's good but not spectacular, I'd give it at least a 7. I'd only drop below the 7 of there are real problems, or it's cropped, or the wrong aspect ration, or distorted colours, or pixelation, etc etc.

6/10 seems to indicate it's a bit 'poor'.

I'll probably wait for the Blu-ray anyway :P
Then it's a good job you're not rating DVDs for DVDtimes then, you'd have the readers banging their heads against the screens in no time! We've already had one debate over the ratings system for cinema reviews before! :D

Maybe I'm just not as negative as all the other AV-fanboys out there, and people will enjoy my more positive take on things!? :P

6/10 = Good
6/10 = A Bit Poor

Which one sounds the most positive? :D

For me "Chocolate" is one of the definite Martial-Arts Highlights 2008. They even made some effort with the story; it's still not "Rain Man", but miles above the mess that "Tom Yum Goong" had to offer (storywise). Not that there's much happening in between, mind; once the girl starts kickin, there's no stop to the action. But especially the first half hour actually succeeds in establishing likeable characters. Autism is a delicate matter, and they managed to introduce it into the exciting world of Martial Arts with a fair amount of sensitivity. A few surprisingly touching moments made it in there, too. The first two fights are a bit slow, the opponents are weak, but it goes quickly uphill from there, the choreography becomes increasingly complex and awe-inspiring. I also liked the fact how different local conditions have been included into the action: there's an ice-factory, a slaughterhouse, a warehouse (gee, I wonder where I've seen THAT before), and finally a Japanese dojo. The sort-of midair-showdown, where the girl climbs around balustrades and tight projections on walls while being attacked from all directions, shows off an assemblage of absolutely insane stunt-work.

Thanks. I've been meaning to pick up the BD.

I quite liked TYG, more than Ong-bak.

Action-wise, TYG was fantastic. Even better than Ong-Bak, which is pretty great in it's own right.

But movie-wise, I thought TYG sucked the big one.

Story wise Ong-bak was piss poor too.

Salty: Is Chocolate Region Free? Despite being able to play both I still prefer region free discs.

FYI according to an Import Forum member despite the rear cover saying DD5.1 and DD2.0 the audio is in fact just the solitary DTS-HD MA. No doubt that's a cock up using the DVD cover.

US dvd (January 12, 2009) and bd (February 10, 2009). Strange they have different release dates. Maybe a mistake?

It's happened before. The UK Wanted DVD was released a few months back but isn't out until next year on BD. I think it was dual releases for America.

I hear the UK BD is good but I expect DD to trump it. I'll wait. Thanks btw.

Chocolate uk BD is region-free but if you have a usa ps3 extras won't play due to being in sd pal.

I decided to order the BD today as it's only £12.98 at Amazon.co.uk.

I really enjoyed both TYG and Ong-Bak. I actually just watched Ong-Bak subbed for the first time recently (had seen it unsubbed many times before) and found the film to be quite funny.

I thought Chocolate was class. Pretty decent (if repetitive) extras on the UK DVD too.

Yup chuffed with Pinkaew at the moment.

IMDB lists this with a running time of 110 mins. So is the UK release a cut international version?
