Maybe I'm just not as negative as all the other AV-fanboys out there, and people will enjoy my more positive take on things!?
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
For me "Chocolate" is one of the definite Martial-Arts Highlights 2008. They even made some effort with the story; it's still not "Rain Man", but miles above the mess that "Tom Yum Goong" had to offer (storywise). Not that there's much happening in between, mind; once the girl starts kickin, there's no stop to the action. But especially the first half hour actually succeeds in establishing likeable characters. Autism is a delicate matter, and they managed to introduce it into the exciting world of Martial Arts with a fair amount of sensitivity. A few surprisingly touching moments made it in there, too. The first two fights are a bit slow, the opponents are weak, but it goes quickly uphill from there, the choreography becomes increasingly complex and awe-inspiring. I also liked the fact how different local conditions have been included into the action: there's an ice-factory, a slaughterhouse, a warehouse (gee, I wonder where I've seen THAT before), and finally a Japanese dojo. The sort-of midair-showdown, where the girl climbs around balustrades and tight projections on walls while being attacked from all directions, shows off an assemblage of absolutely insane stunt-work.
Salty: Is Chocolate Region Free? Despite being able to play both I still prefer region free discs.
FYI according to an Import Forum member despite the rear cover saying DD5.1 and DD2.0 the audio is in fact just the solitary DTS-HD MA. No doubt that's a cock up using the DVD cover.
I really enjoyed both TYG and Ong-Bak. I actually just watched Ong-Bak subbed for the first time recently (had seen it unsubbed many times before) and found the film to be quite funny.
I thought Chocolate was class. Pretty decent (if repetitive) extras on the UK DVD too.
