Isn't this really a duplicate?

Excellent films:

* Bourne Ultimatum
* American Gangster
* Brick Lane
* A Mighty Heart

Has anyone else seen the last two on this forum or is it not something most would see at the cinema? It's a pity as they're outstanding!

Came very close to being excellent:

* Zodiac
* Jesse James

Decent but not excellent:

* Death Proof
* Curse of the Golden Flower

Past a couple of hours, no real complaints but should've been better:

* Transformers
* Die Hard 4.0

A let down, utter tosh:

* Shrek 3
* Rush Hour 3

Disappoints: Most of the Hollywood films I've seen at the cinema this year. It's been a particularly bad year for Summer Blockbusters.

The only two excellent Summer Blockbusters were Bourne Ultimatum and American Gangster!

Michael Winterbottom films are too much of a gamble, as theatre trips cost a small fortune these days. His filmography is too inconsistent. One day it's kick ass satire films like 24 Hour People and Tristram Shandy; other days it's dull dramas like Welcome to Sarajevo and The Claim and finally there's piles of dung like Nine Songs.

Also TBH yours and Kermode's are the only positive opinions I've heard concerning AMH. A lot of others rate it the same as you would Drunken Master.

I meant more it seems if it's not a Hollywood blockbuster, Macho or Asian it doesn't get a look in by most on this forum, certainly not at the cinema anyway.

A Mighty Heart is definitely one of Winterbottom's best films. Angelina Jolie is outstanding. It's not often a Hollywood star can completely lose herself in the performance. You completely forget it's her.

They also shot it in a semi-documentary style which really adds to the affect. I've never been to Pakistan but imagine it has the same chaotic feel as other parts of Asia I have been to so I feel I can say it's not often you see a Western film that makes Asia look like Asia, it's really well done. A Mighty Heart is not an easy watch but it's a very powerful one.
Also TBH yours and Kermode's are the only positive opinions I've heard concerning AMH.
Seriously? I find that so hard to believe. It's weird how opinions differ so much. I reckon you'll like it.

The Empire review says it lacks emotion. Clearly they were asleep as the ending especially is so emotional.

After renting S1 - S3, I went back and purchased S1, which has to rank as one of the best TV shows ever created. I haven't seen S4, though. The end of S3 seemed to wrap the stories from S1 with satisfying closure, so I didn't see much point in continuing. Was it as good as the previous seasons? With S5, the final season, premiering next month, a lot of other stories must be coming to a close.

I'm assuming all this is for films/DVDs released in 2007 rather than ones I've just happened to watch... So based on what I recall actually watching that was new this year (I have missed quite a few films)

1: Best film : Transformers
2: Worst film: The Fountain (think this was a 2006 film? But someone else put it down and I hated it so much I'm going to echo their sentiment)
3: Worst Foreign film: Curse of the Golden Flower
4: Much Better than i expected award: n/a
5: Biggest disappointment : PotC:3
6:best dvd bought: Lost, 24, Scrubs, Red Dwarf
7:Best HD-DVD bought: didn't buy any
8:Best Blu-ray bought: didn't buy any
9:Likely first 2008 purchase: More Scrubs, Pan's Labyrinth
10: 2008 movie most eagerly awaited: Indiana Jones, HP - don't actually know much else about what's coming. Have seriously fallen behind on my film geekiness... :oops:

I've just thought of another excellent film I've seen this year:

And When Did You Last See Your Father?

Dumb name but excellent acting from Jim Broadbent (unsurprisingly) and Colin Firth (surprisingly).

well, these lists are a bit of a joke anyway because no one can possibly have seen more than a fraction of the possible great / terrible films of 2007 yet (especially in case of asian films, which of many won't become available to foreign audinces till 2008 or later). More interesting would be top and bottom 10 films seen in 2007.

I only went to the cinema once in 2007 and that was to see Die Hard 4.0.

So that's my film of the year. :D
