in a year of numerous 3rd movies in trilogies it's no worse than spidey 3,pirates 3 or shrek 3.
True but then that's not the point.

I specifically put that in there as you like to be condescending yourself ;) . It sounds like I was correct though and you just don't like musicals.

Which is essentially the same as I said ;)

So I agree with you too then. Good ;)
A movie musical isnt always the same as a STAGE musical, a movie musical can be free in terms of dialogue etc and there is no Broadway setting for when people sing or dance.
Would the Wizard of Oz be considered a musical?

i don't think Wizard of Oz is a fully fledged musical, more a fantasy with musical interludes.classic movie.

You're right there :)
Singin' In The Rain is a classic too, though really for that the songs came first and the story was made to kind of fit the songs TBH.

The singing progresses the story. If you didn't get that I suggest you don't bother with musicals any more.

Classic!
Markgway wrote:PHANTOM received a lot of negative criticism when it was released a couple of years back (though I can't recall what for...?)
I believe it was for the poor choice of lead. Gerard Butler's singing sucked reportedly. I haven't seen them the film myself (although my mum has it on DVD somewhere).

I might put it on sometime to appreciate the wardrobe, cinematography and Emmy Rossum... I bet that she's a screamer. :D

Resident Evil: Extinction (blu-ray) 3/5

Entertaining enough 3rd movie in the series no classic certainly but entertaining throughout. some good action sequences here and Mila looks pretty hot. can't help feeling this series has been largely wasted potential though.

Poor Tarantino. Because he made his film a Grindhouse feature with "Planet Terror", "Death Proof" will always be standing in its shadow and people will keep saying, "Planet Terror? Yeah, great film... and better than 'Death Proof', mate!"
Agreed.

I think both Grindhouse films are open to personal choice. Planet Terror barely even got a release over here.

Would you like an example? Don't dish it out, if you don't like others throwing it back:

AvP-R - 1.5/5
How sad but part 1 was actually better! Proof that the R-rating doesn't mean shit.

Flirting Scholar (aka "FlirTONG Scholar") - 3.5/5
Pretty damn hilarious. Would've gave it 4 stars but the crappy subs kinda bugged me. ie: "I scare nothing!" and "I want to suicide."

The Simpsons Movie - 4/5
Hilarious! I laughed my balls off!!!

Isn't the R rating just an excuse to swear a bit more and add a minute amount of violence instead of an all out gore/violence fest?

It's a Wonderful Life: 5/5

Superb film. Regarded as a classic, and justifiably so, its one of the best loved American films of all time. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed are fantastic in it.
Isn't the story rather like A Christmas Carol? The last act of the film is rather dark for a "Christmas" film and yet the closing scene especially made me laugh and cry with happiness. It's lovely :)
I know the message of the film is supposed to be how Bailey's life touches all the others in some way, no matter how insignificantly, about how beloved Bailey was by the town and how selfless he was/is (hell, even though he considers suicide, he jumps in the water to save Clarence, a man he doesnt even know, from drowning), but is it saying that without Bailey the town would fall apart? During the disturbing graveyard scene, Clarence says Harry died in the alternate reality because George wasnt there to save him.
I'm sorry, but did it not occur to any of George's friends to save Harry? They were there as well? :? Maybe someone else would have gone to war and saved the men on the transport.
Still a classic film though.

POLTERGEIST 3.5/5

Almost a cracker. The first third is the weak link in the chain; film doesn't get really started until about 35 mins in and from then it's a scary rollercoaster ride. Tobe Hooper may have got the credit, but this is a Spielberg film all the way. You can feel it. My biggest gripe is that the parents are a bit annoying in the early stages and their reaction to the initial "activity" is too unrealistic (and played a bit for laughs). But when the daughter gets kidnapped by the TV things start to rock.

The 25th anniversary DVD is a disgrace in terms of extras, but the image and audio are top-notch (they even included a remastered stereo track).

Side note: Did anyone else think it was irresponsible to show the parents smoking dope whilst their three young children slept in the next room? That took me by surprise.

No, but then you're so conservative you give Mary Whitehouse a run for her money! :D

The Jungle Book (1967): 4/5

I enjoyed it. Catchy songs :)
