Top: 2001 open-matte DVD
Bottom: 2007 Blu-ray
These BD screen captures were taken by a member on the AVSforum who goes by the name of "House". I matched them with the DVD release.
This Blu-ray would be identical to the HD-DVD as it is the same compression codec used and the bit-rates are 100% the same.
This new transfer is near flawless if not completely. There is a drastic jump in colour and depth between the original DVD and this new HD transfer.
The textures on Jack's coat are so clear and well defined it is like actually being there. The fantastic visuals of this film are captured in such breath
taking quality. I was floored by this transfer. In regards to the matting, I think we can all see the benefit of the widescreen matting. The dead spaces
are all fixed and each scene now appears to be framed much more correctly.
