Jackie Brown - 4/5
Saw it for the very first time and think it is very good. It is supposed to be in 4:3, right?

Nope. According to IMDB the OAR is 1.85:1

Great movie though. I'm not really a Tarentino fan, but this movie was very good.

It was shot 1.33:1 but 1.85:1 (or 1.78:1?) is the intended aspect ratio. The German dvd is open matte (and awful picture quality).

Irma Vep: 3.5/5

Interesting :) One of those movies about movies and filmmaking. You can't go wrong with Maggie Cheung running around in a catsuit though, she looks gorgeous in this film :)
The language is a mix of both French and English.

Thing is its not the first time and wont be the last, Cineworld seem to be the single worst screeners of films I have ever been to.

Their prints are in appuling condition, scratched to bits many times with vertical lines down the entire film, it was happeining half the time I went for a few months. They have the wrong aspect ratios set many times for the first few minutes and we get a squashed image, and they frame the image a few foot out so a big bit of the image is off the screen.

They also when they lower the lights always seem to leave the light above me on! and it lights me up like a fairy (bring on the gay jokes). It heats me up and gives me a tan, on the top of my flipping head that is.

Shame they are the only place that does Unlimited cards, or I would not go to Cineworld cinemas. Paying such a small amount for unlimited cinema viewing is something other cinemas need to do.

Yeah. You can switch it to widescreen, though. However, when I noticed that there was more video information on the top and the bottom of the screen, I decided to watch it in full screen. Wasn't that bad actually.

Yeah, but I'm talking about proper films, not no budget arse from pretentious knobs.

That's how it is with all open matte films. The extra info on the top and bottom is supposed to be matted off. 4:3 editions fail to do that so you're seeing more than you should. Like the tree in Armour of God or Bridget Fonda's arse (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) in Jackie Brown. Boom mics are another speciality.

I was speaking generally. I'm not saying there were boom mics in Jackie Brown. I'm sure I saw them in Ransom though; another open matte film.

Have I Got News For You: 3/5

Merton and Hislop are funny but jeez Anne Widdicombe is hard work/annoying. I didn't half get annoyed by her monotonous, sticatto delivery and she doesn't know how to deliver a gag. Maybe that was the point? Seeing someone who is so out of their depth acting like a stern schoolteacher.

The Armstrong and Miller Show: 4/5

I love the WWII pilots, Divorced Dad and the Bond villain-like skits - "KILL THEM!" :D

Sex and Fury: 4/5

OTT at times, but I enjoyed it :D Some really crazy scenes, which make the usual "revenge" plot stand out, like the one where a naked (!) Ocho slices up some villains with a sword while it's snowing outside - the snow reminded me of Lady Snowblood or Kill Bill. The music is good.
Chrstina Lindberg is hot too :) High quality film for an exploitation film IMO.

I saw it a few weeks back.

That scene was good, as was the finale but boy it was a ridiculous amount of sex, which was so sterile I cannot believe anyone would be turned on by it. Chrstina Lindberg was attractive but all the English accents were just awful. I've been waiting until I sit down and watch the semi-sequel before posting.

I'm surprised you gave it a whopping 4 out of 5. Take out the two decent action scenes and it's dreadful. I'd give it 3 out of 5 at best, probably 2.5 out of 5.

Did you buy the R1?
