General football thread!

Post by grim_tales »

You know this already.. but I heard about Mutu (Chelsea) getting banned, a few days back.

Now I'm no Man U fan but.. Rio MISSES a test (no proof he took drugs, he steadfastly denies it) and gets a 8 month ban, and Mutu FAILS a test and admits he's a coke addict, and gets a 7 MONTH BAN.

Hmmm.. something is not right there!!:mad: Rio was treated very unfairly, IMO. The punishment they both got does not fit the crime.

Much as I agree with you, I think it's because what Mutu took was a recreational drug, not one designed to enhance performance in anyway.

It's more to do with the "image" of football I think, which is why he got a lower ban, the FA want to be seen as helpful to players who are addicted to drugs.

What happened to Rio was that he was made a scapegoat, everyone knows that. There was a player in a lower division who did exactly the same thing and got something like 3 or 4 months ban!

I'm not complaining about the ban, I just want these thigs to be standardised.

Get caught for definite with an enhancement drug - Banned for several years/banned for life/something seriously major.

Miss the test/proven innocent afterwards (the Rio situation) - Fined/banned for short time, month or two

Miss the test, not proven innocent - Banned for 6 months, say, acts as a deterrent.

something like that would be fairer, especially if done as a standard, no arguing rule.
He's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?
