In japanese 'R' is often pronounced something very close to 'L'. That's why they mix them up in other languages, too.

I went to Rome with my Japanese friend. On the train, the announcer greeted passengers with "Welcome to R-R-R-Rrrroma Termini." It was so funny watching my friend (trying to) repeat the same sentence.

Not in my experience. When they really tried they could say my name correctly but not otherwise.

This might be a silly example, but what about "Hattori Hanzo". The "r" is clearly pronounced with a rolled tongue in the "Hanzo"-films and in "Kill Bill".

As for Korean language, check out the word "I love you" or "people" which are also pronounced with a rolled r ("sarrang hae" and "sarram").

I was talking about a rolling L not R sound

. Your tongue doesn't roll when you say an R sound like it does an L sound.

Anyway it's not really important.

One Armed Boxer 3.5/5

Jimmy Wang Yu in one of his signature roles,the action in this is rough and ready and not particularly good but the movie gains points for the daft array of fighters seen here. Master Of The Flying Guillotine is better.

Seed Of Chucky Unrated 3/5

Bonkers horror movie goes down the self referential route with Jennifer Tilly and her chest sending herself up gamely throughout. some good gory deaths and Billy Boyd as Shitface is very good.

Jun Ichikawa’s masterpiece is near perfect movie making from start to finish. Beautiful film with no underlining or rush. Well acted throughout. Films like this make modern cinema worth watching.

Glad this is the last one. I hated his Brando impression, and the irritating O-News guy, but some skits raised a smile, like the 1940's spoof on Millionaire (retitled "Who wants to win £100?"), and the cheery Information film from the 1970's "Let's Pretend to have Witnessed a Murder"

Planet Terror – 3,5/5
Almost excellent but still not quite. There’s just something wrong with Rodriguez’ film making. He can’t make a film fly, although it’s constantly about to. But in this case it’s good enough. The Carpenter esque hospital and police station scenes were my favourites. Great fun, but far from Tarantino’s masterful closing half.

Remember the Titans: 4 outta 5

What can you say? Predictable, feel-good movie with a message. But good.

I could write a soaring review blasting this movie out of the water and then smacking it over the head till it's dead... cause it gives me all the opportunity to do so. The main problem is that movies like this are a dime-a-dozen when it comes to story, characters, message, etc etc. It's a TV-movie made for the big-screen.

Yet it works. You just gotta accept that this is what it is, and just sit back and take it all in. It has the stereotype hicks that cant conform to the new situation, you have the community which is split, you have the struggle between black and white on and off the field, the prejudice, the misunderstandings, the overcoming of all the problems, the evil white bad guys, the tragic drama, the happy ending, etc etc etc blablahblah...

...and yet it works.

I could easily give this movie a 2 or a 3 outta 5, but it's a better movie than that. I enjoyed watching, it is well-made, it has strong performances by most of the cast, and it does what it's supposed to do (uplifting, with a message, feel-good movie) well. It's not a 5 outta 5, cause of the flaws I already mentioned. But it's a solid 4 outta 5, but just realize what kind fo movie this is going to be before you decide to watch it. Dont expect anything original or surprising.

BTW... a very young chearleader we all know and love, from Heroes, is in this

I enjoyed it but I thought Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance et al was better as it had more samurai action

The Warriors – 3/5
Not quite as brilliant as I was expecting, although I greatly enjoyed the late 70’s New York footage. Still a very entertaining film with an excellent ending.

Apocalypto – 4/5
Appart from some Jesus symbolism Gibson’s Maya apocalypse is a damn intense chase thriller. Shooting digital was a brilliant idea, too. The jungle Cassel bothered me a few times, though.

The Conversation – 3,5/5
Nice psychological thriller from Coppola.

The Big Boss (in Mandarin): 3.5/5
Fox DVD

I'd never heard the film in Mandarin before. The opening music on the credits is different, there seems to be less music in the film as a whole, I'm not sure but the subs appeared timed for the Cantonese dialogue

Sometimes subs come up when nothing is being said, and at the start it takes about 2s for music to start.
Largely mediocre film until Bruce lets fly in my opinion. There are no war cries.
