The Bourne Supremacy: Extended Edition

Post by bradavon »

Universal Pictures Video has announced the release of The Bourne Supremacy: Extended Edition for the 30th of July, priced at around £9.99. The disc will feature an anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, but there's no word on bonus material yet.

They pulled this exact same tricky when Supremacy was released, yawn!

I hope it's a PROPER Extended cut this time instead of the pathetic attempt with Identity, where they just bung some deleted scenes on. Which in that case meant losing the commentary.

I'm waiting until I hear it's a proper extended cut which RETAINS the commentary.

Oh and that Red is awful. The Blue is great on the original disc, it matches the Identity's blue really well. This didn't work on the American cover where it wasn't blue.

The pixelation on the cover is also awful, it's not there on the original cover.

p.s - Check out the price though! It will be bare-bones no doubt.

What happened to that one ?

Also could someone in england check this out :

Re Bourne Identity

"According to Doug Liman's audio commentary on the American DVD, the European version of the film contains an additional 1:00 scene, which was cut to make the film shorter in the US. It is included among the bonus features on the American DVD and involves Jason and Marie eating with Eamon and his children at their farmhouse."

Actually, the version in the bonuses is an extended edition of this scene. It would be good if we could check out if this scene is :

- In the "explosive" UK edition DVD

- In the european HD-DVD (I have a feeling this one uses the american, cut master)

I checked the original french disc, and it does include the scene. The "explosive" american disc and the original american disc does not.

It's not an extra, this scene is in the film, making the european version an "uncut" version.

Once you have seen this hilarious scene in the movie (Bourne drinks Heineken !), you will miss it if it's gone, it helps humanise his character.

I've just checked my UK Original DVD (the one with DTS and Commentary before the Explosive Edition) and it's the same as the USA DVD.

Extended Farmhouse scene as an extra but not in the film. It doesn't exactly add anything. I'm surprised Doug Liman would want it in any version of the movie. There is a farmhouse scene in the movie but it's the next morning. I'm surprised they'd insist on the film being 1 minute shorter in America though, weird.

To confirm are you saying your French original DVD has this scene part of the movie? Strange we don't get it in the UK then.

Are you saying it's shorter on your French original DVD or the same as the one in the extras on the American DVD?

By the sounds of it "Mainland European" version. Ireland will have the same DVD the UK got.

Why do you say that? I'm waiting for a Trilogy HD-DVD box set before buying it again. I think one is coming.

Thanks Bravadon, I rented the original release of Bourne Identity, french version, (of course, being a DVD, it features english language and menus as well as french), and it has the aforementioned dinner scene, integrated into the movie the difference is, it's not as long, and plays therefore much better. It's even very funny when watching the film the first time, because Bourne is played as a bit cooler and less tight than in all the rest of the movie. I think this scene (not as featured in the extras, but as edited into the movie into a shorter scene), adds much indentification to the character, that helps makes the third act work better than as in the US/UK cut.

I think the movie have been released in europe as a stand alone HD-DVD (correct me if I'm wrong), so therefore, I'm interested to know if the french / UK / other versions features the US cut (no dinner scene), or the same as the french cut.

It's funny because on the french DVD, if you watch it with the commentary (which in the US/UK mention there is a deleted scene right here), the commentary goes silent, with only incoherent bits and pieces of english subtitles appearing. That's an authoring error, and makes it odd, but you understand why they would cut the commentary in that part, as the scene mentioned as deleted is playing right in front of you.

I didn't notice that scene on my original USA DVD either (the one with DTS and commentary).

The farmhouse meal sequence is presented as an extra and not integrated into the film on my R4 either (original with DTS and commentary). Meh, it's entirely redundant anyway as Brad said, I'd shed no tears over it's absence.

LOL they do look funny when composed like that but I can't say I found them funny in the deleted scene.

I do wonder why Liman wanted them in the film though.

Yeah, the version included in the deleted section of the US disc is absolutely not cut the same, it was probably just a rough edit, this one works much better and is professional, seamless looking, perfectly integrated.
My feeling is that it was cut from the US version, because people laughed. They probably assumed that they were laughing at the movie, when it fact, it just offered some light relief before the last act. It's maybe 1mn long max, probably closer to 30s.

Oh yeah, that scene is definitely part of the feature film on my R4.

The only thing I don't like about that DVD is the player-generated subs for the locations, these should've used the original burnt-in theatrical ones.

Fair enough then. It's a pity no one outside of France (or maybe the Mainland) gets to see it then.

You're probably right. The deleted scene on the DVD is also 1m.

When does it happen? I'll re-check my UK R2.
