I recently reinstalled win xp and there are few things that are now different to the way I had them before and this one is bugging me.
I have music playlists on wmp10 that I've made and I used to be able to close and reopen wmp and still have the playlist in the "now playing" section.
Now though, every time I restart wmp10 the now playing list is empty and I have to reload the playlist I've made. I've had a look through some of the options and can't find anything that sounds like it is the right option to check... It is very possible I'm missing something, but if anyone has any idea on how to fix this, it woud be appreciated!!
Windows media player 10 playlist disappearing on restart

The same thing happens to me when I try to reproduce your scenario, it doesn't remem ber the Now Playing list. Just whatever do, don't upgrade to WMP11 as the new interface is horrible.
I highly recommend switching to Winamp, with some custom MP3 decoder and output plugins the sound quality is a whole lot better than WMP's, since you're bypassing the design limitations in the way XP handles sound output. Oh yeah and it remembers the playlists when you close and reopen the app.
For output:-
Kernel Streaming plugin.
(If you sound card supports ASIO, then use Otachan's out_asio instead. As ASIO is better than KS).
Disable any equalisers or DSP plugins as these only artificially colour the audio.
Install plugins to the Plugins subdirectory of your Winamp folder.
For MP3 decoding:-
Otachan's mpg123 plugin (If you install this then be sure to rename in_mp3.dll to something else, like in_mp3.dll.bak. Otherwise the mpg123 may not work and the program will default to the Nullsoft decoder.)
You'll need WinRAR or 7zip to open those Otachan archives. If you can't be bothered, then the Nullsoft MP3 codec is almost as good.
Ignore any advice from Bradavon as he's totally clueless when it comes to this subject.

I had a nice long reply to this which I accidentally wiped and can't be bothered retyping everything so to summarise:
Had wmp11 for about 10 mins. Hated it so stuck with 10.
Used winamp AGES ago, when it was just a small music player. Stopped using it when it changed to a whole big media player type thing. Will give it another look though.
I may be wrong about wmp10 ever remembering the now playing list. I was sure it did, but could be making it up in my head.

You can customise the crap out of Winamp, so just remove components that you don't need.
Eg you don't need to bother with Online Services, Visualisations and DSP plugins. I also didn't install any of the video playback capabilities, audio encoding/converting, CD ripping as I use other programs to those things (Eg Media Player Classic + codec packs for video playback).

Winamp's CD Ripping and Video Playback capabilities are a joke.
WMP11 is great. It's a major improvement over WMP10 which sucked, just like all previous versions from v7-v10. Thankfully they fixed that in v11. It's a good job I like it as good luck using v10 or lower under Vista
. Which pretty much everyone will eventually.
I liked Winamp when it was small now it's just ugly.degeneration wrote:Used winamp AGES ago, when it was just a small music player. Stopped using it when it changed to a whole big media player type thing. Will give it another look though.

It doesn't remember it for me either using Vista HP and v11.degeneration wrote:I may be wrong about wmp10 ever remembering the now playing list. I was sure it did, but could be making it up in my head.
