I see a Making Of. mentioned it's maybe the same. Having said that for the price difference and considering the extras are already pretty good on the R4 I'd still take it over the DTS R2.
To illustrate this, the Ong Bak DVDs will have both the International Theatrical Version and the Original Thai Version... and, before you ask, both as separate assets (non-branching).
This was taken from a shorter reply in return from a rant by Yi-long (a valid one but a rant ). I've asked for confirmation:
* So will it be the IC on disc 1 and the DC on disc 2?
* Won't that hamper the amount of extras allowed?
* Will the DC have Thai DTS?
I currently have Musa R4 (thanks to Grim old bean) and the subs are a vast improvement over the Korean crapola subs. Which are a right mess! Acceptable but a mess.
I think they're a bit big and I'm not a fan of Yellow subs but both are just me.
As for the AV it's virtually the same as the Korean DVD, maybe "slightly better". It's obvious it used the Korean DVD as it's master, it looks very similar. The framing is a little odd on the R4, it's not the usual 2.35:1 and I think it's a bit more. It's not an issue though and you forget it after a few seconds.
The PA UK R2 is far superior in AV and subs but of course it's cut so knocks it off for most people. The PA DVD looks gorgeous and wipes the floor with both the R4 and Korean DVD, that's not to say they are bad but could be better.
Still for the subs alone the R4 is the best bet for the DC!
* Red Beard - Out Now - The Criterion has a commentary but is otherwise the same.
* The Bride With White Hair - 15th of June - Making Of. featurette - Isn't this the very first anamorphic version?. The R1 also has a director's commentary.
* The Bride With White Hair 2 - 15th of June - Isn't this the very first anamorphic version?
* Scandal - 15th of June
* The Eye - 20th of July - Making Of. featurette + Director Spotlight
Rental:
* Breaking News - 29th of June - DTS, DD5.1 and DD2.0
* The Bride With White Hair - Isn't this the very first anamorphic version?
Sort of. The french disc also has a flawless anamorphic transfer but it doesn't have any english subs, so I guess it doesn't count.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
Why do EE have to be the ones to release "Shubun" first. It's not like I'll pick up any release but R2J, but it's a shame that BFI or Criterion didn't beat EE to it. Mei Ah don't count obviously.
Why does it matter who gets there first? From experiance I wouldn't say BFI are a particulary great label anyway.

Yep it counts. I'll add it to the first post for the reason you mentioned but will mention there is also another anamorphic DVD, once confirmation is in on what exactly these DVDs will have.
Is this the only other anamorphic DVD? What about the sequel?
I posted on the Madman boards the following but have not had a reply yet:
1. How many hours of extras?
2. Will it have Thai DTS?
3. We know it's going to be uncut but please be more specific? -
* Will it be integrated branching (i.e - Volcano High)?
* Seamless branching (R1 Terminator 2)?
* Both cuts on a dual layer disc (like many R1 DVDs with both WS & 4:3)?
* The International Cut on disc 1 and the Director's Cut on disc 2?
Only options 2 and 4 would be acceptable but as long as it's not option 1 then I can live with it. Of course option 2 would be by far the best option, so lots of room for all the extras.
I'll bet you any money that it won't feature seamless branching, I would be very surprised if Madman had the authoring software for that when many large houses haven't access to it yet.
Me neither. I reckon very much it will be crappy integrated branching. Making it basically a waste of time. Who wants to watch a movie that pauses all the time? Volcano High is only DD2.0 also (when watching the DC).
I don't get the point of integrated branching. Why bother?
If it is integrated branching then despite the new score the UK R2 PA DVD will be the best. The R1 will almost certainly only feature the International Cut.
Well HKL just are going to rescore the movie, so it may be a subtle change rather than a major change. I'm just waiting from the posting on your question from the other forum.
By the way, in the 1st posting you have Musa, in your opinion, is this the best version available. I did have the korean version with the book, as well as the 3 disk version from Sweden (Which the director cut was bad - in parts of the movie, it was changing to black and white). Checked my disk with 2 different dvd player and it wasn't the player. There was no scratch, so i think it is a mastering issue.
Great news. I've had a reply back from the questions I asked further up:
1. Approx 3 hours
2. DD5.1 only
3. Option 3, so similar format to Blade Trinity DVD
No, at this stage we can't do seamless branching. It's actually a software-only solution at pre-mastering stage that doesn't require any hardware. It can be achieved using this piece of software (Mac only).
Fuck it. If no-one release this movie as it should be released, I'll be going bootleg...
I already paid for the Thai version and I'm not gonna waste my money on this movie again unless its a (near) perfect release!
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
ICE-angel wrote:But will that branched "thai" version use the original film music ? If it's branched, I suppose not.
If the Oz Ong-Bak comes with the Besson score, I wouldn't bother with it even if it's uncut. The Besson score, which loses about 9/10 of the impact in all the action scenes it's used, damages the film as much or even more than whatever cuts, incredibly as it may be - having seen both versions, I can testify that.
My advice is go for the cheap but good HK or Thai discs and burn your own backup with an english subtitle stream, or ask a friend to do it for you if you don't have a burner.
If you actually read the thread Brad linked to you'll know that it isn't branched that way.
* Both cuts on a dual layer disc (like many R1 DVDs with both WS & 4:3)?
Therefore the uncut version is original in every way, including score.
More updates from the useful as ever Chris @ Madman:
I asked: Can I confirm both cuts will have Thai DD5.1?
And he replied: Yup, both cuts will have DD5.1
So at last we can all get our hands on the fully uncut version in a respectable manner.
Even if the R1 is the DC (which is very unlikely) it's only a 1 disc release (this we know) so won't have half the extras the R4 will. It's likely it will be the DC because also it has some featurettes from some American rapper.
The UK R2 PA DVD will probably have DTS but will have a new score!

I'd also take Memetic's advise!

* Both cuts on a dual layer disc, like many R1 DVDs with both WS & 4:3. Meaning each cut will cover a single layer and NO branching will be utilised (i.e - no pausing) ** Both cuts will have Thai DD5.1
