BHC is perfect IMO. I love the music and it has enough action. Part 1 is more a comedy and Part 2 more action. Both are perfect. It's a pity the script for Part 3 was so woeful. A theme park???

Enjoyed it :D
Was this the one on last night? That was funny.

4.25 out of 5 - WTF is that? Surely you could've given it 4.5 or 4 out of 5.

That gag is great :D

hey,

When Beckham Met Owen 3.5/5

Lensed independently and another indie presented by Eric Tsang (also supported Fu Bo) is a charming and felt story of two best friends, both obsessed by said footie players but one feeling he's changing. Experiencing feelings of love, thinking about sex. Thinking he's different and therefore will be rejected, the film turns to one about genuine friendship and all that bla bla. Old, familiar stuff but handled with ease by debut director Adam Wong who gets the best out of his young leads and gives us an expected yet finely timed resolution to the story. The lack of development in some of the adult supporting characters drags the grade down a notch.

Just annoyed me. Cheesy synth crap. Alex F. is the title track.

EDIT: I wouldn't say BHC was perfect or anything close. It's not even Murphy's best film. That would be Coming to America.

It is, correct. I meant the theme tune. I guess Eva did too.

No way at all. I'd be hard pressed to pick Part 1 or Part 2 though. Coming to America is also great.

Murphy has never made a great film in his entire life, never will from the look of it.

City on Fire – 3,5/5
Ringo Lam’s classic is a mixed bag. The scrip is in a need of polishing with some unnecessary side plots, and Lam is often in a too much hurry to make the characters very approachable. More characterization for the leads wouldn’t hurt. Acting isn’t always that good, either. What the film really succeeds in is being a hard boiled heist thriller. The brutal action sequences are masterfully executed, and the main character is well crafted. Chow Yun Fat’s small time punk turned undercover cop is not quite the heroic gentleman he’s used to playing. Lam interestingly blurs the line between good and bad, duty and brotherhood.

Itsuka dareka ga korosareru – 3/5
Noriko Watanabe stars in this enjoyable but non-remarkable Kadokawa idol film. The mystery story is heavy on dialogue but Noriko sings, Noriko drives a motorcycle, and Noriko looks generally good. Directed by Yoichi Sai (Blood and Bones).

Akira – 4,5/5
What is there left to say about this film? Akira is simply one of the most influential movies ever made, a scifi pic in the league of Blade Runner. Impossible not to appreciate.

Mezzo Forte – 2,5/5
Kite director Yasuomi Umetsu continues on the same path but with more humour. While the numerous laughs are the saving element the sex scenes feel even more unnecessary than before. The first half is generally quite good (including the hilarious bowling alley sequence) but the last 30 minutes is a bit of a mess. Less androids, more sense please.

You should read the manga. It will make you dislike the movie.

hey,

Iron Ox, The Tiger's Killer 3/5

Standard revenge as plot but this Taiwan basher entertains with some interesting narrative scenarios and ferocious, lengthy and varied fighting scenes.

Linda Linda Linda (2005 - Japan): 2,75 / 5
I tried. I swear I tried.

Seen this movie 5 times on my PC already.
I want to like it, but I can't.

There's Bae Du-Na in it and she's brilliant, but it's not enough.
There's Aki Maeda in it, but it's not enough.
It's just too slow and there's barely enough plot to fill a 20-minute short film.

Watched it 5 times. Can't like it. Will buy the DVD, though.
Maybe I'll like it more on my big screen. :D

-----

The Ultimate Gift: 1 / 5
Fucking waste of time.

Flags of our Fathers: 2 / 5
The least ambitious war film I've ever seen.

Wild Hogs: 0 / 5
*Bangs head repeatedly on the wall*
I... will... never... watch... stupid humourless american comedies ever again.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

You've watched a film you don't like five times, and are still going to buy the DVD - WTF???

Linda 3 is excellent, even if there's too much plot in it and the second half could be much better.

Speaking of Yamashita, I've got No One's Ark on order, saving for Matsugane ransha jiken, and just found out today he's directed a film called Sono otoko, kyobo ni tsuki which is out on very cheap R2J with eng subs. And Tennen kokekko is coming in December (with subs).

EDIT: I can understand Tom's 'don't like it that much, yet watch five times and buy'. I do the same with Desperado. Not a great film but for some reason I end up watching it every few years. And I'm disappointed every time. I even sold the dvd once, only to buy it back later. I was disappointed that time too, but wise enough not even consider selling it again.

That makes no sense to me. Sure I've re-seen films that at first I didn't like but there comes a point you just have to acknowledge it's not for you.

I don't know why you bother with Desperado. Personally I think it's great and pretty much RR's only decent film. The sequel is awful.

RR's only decent film!? What about El Mariachi? A superior prequel to Desperado surely?

Hell no. It's commendable for what RR achieved on such a small budget but the story sucks. I was pretty bored for certain parts of the film. OUATIM is utterly ridiculous, not in a good way.

Desperado is easily the best of the three. RR had developed as a director, had a decent budget but it was before he went all insane with OUATIM.

:D at your signature.

RR's best film is easily The Faculty.

Probably because he didn't write the script.

Linda³ is rubbish to begin with. If you don't like it you should consider yourself lucky and definitely avoid watching it multiple times and buying it. There are so many good films waiting to be watched, why waste time on those that don't sate you?

Hopefully Bisc is wrong because I have Planet Terror on order. But yeah, El Mariachi is far superior to Desperado.
