No, have you ever eaten Turkish delight from the UK and Turkey? Obviously not as you'd know it tastes different. They're usually bigger, much gooier and sometimes have nuts (which I'm not really a fan of). You can also get mint Turkish Delights but I've only seen the normal Lemon and Strawberry ones here.

Besides how is it pretentious? What a ridiculous overstatement, Turkish Delight is a "Turkish" sweet. Guinness tastes better in Ireland, that's not being pretentious it's a fact.

Obviously. It's also a given considering I wrote it. I'd have thought that was obvious. It doesn't make it pretentious to say food tastes nicer from a particular country.

Thai food tastes nicer in Thailand than the UK. The food tends to be a bit westernised (but still nice) over here.

French baguettes/croissants are normally so much nicer in France than over here IMO (another example).

Depends if a French market comes to town or not...
I'd love to have Indian food in India too.

That would be awesome. The best food in Thailand is on the street, mixing with the locals.

It's not the best "tasting" food which is probably better in a restaurant but street food still trumps it as you get all the smells, sounds and bustle of the street with it. You can literally see your food being made.

I'm currently eating 50g of 70-85% dark chocolate a day, because it was in the paper last week that it has been found to help sufferers of chronic fatigue syndrome. :)

Depends where you go I guess. Have you been to Wagamama (sp)? My friend Tomomi once said Wagamama is quite nice but its like a mixture of other Asian food as well.

Brad, if you said the best Turkish Delight comes from Spain I wouldn't have said anything even though I doubt you've tasted every country's product. But to say Turkey's is the best because it's 'Turkish' smacks of being pretentious every bit as much as Grim's croissant example or your Guinness from Ireland being different.

Why, Grim? So you can burn an XL hole in your arse? I guess being Scottish I'll have to stick to Haggis and Deep Fried Mars as everything else will be an inferior replica of things that are better elsewhere.....

Jeez Mark talk about being ridiculous. It's not pretentious to say a country produces the "best" of something just because I've not tried every single example in the world, which isn't even possible.

I think it's safe to say the Turkish know how to make the best Turkish Delight and they do make the best Guinness in Ireland, Dublin to be precise. It's not just me who says that, but many a Guinness drinker. It's way, way smoother.

Jeez Mark I said croissants were nicer in France in my opinion, than ones sold over here in the supermarket. I didn't say they were "best". I have tasted ones in France thanks.
As for Indian food in India, well, to sample real local produce (Brad gave the example of street food) and see how different it is from Indian restaurants over here (not saying that's not good).

Why? Can't something ever be improved upon by foreigners? Your theory is ridiculous. MAYBE Turkish Turkish Delight IS the best (?) but certainly not for the reasons you're suggesting.

If you eat any REAL Indian food you'll be on the toilet for a week.

Now whose making a generalisation. I would guess it's the bad hygiene (maybe of the past) that has created this urban myth/fact than the actual food.

Go Grim, Go Grim, Go Grim :D

I've not tried Jamaican Guinness but Malaysian Guinness is ghastly. It's the stout variety (that they also sell here), that is really watery.
