Planet Terror - 3.75 / 5
Good zombie kinda movie, good lead, just cgi 70's style camera work annoyed the hell out of me, as well as in the middle the film cuts out, I know this was suppose to be like how the Grindhouse used to be, but frankly it was just annoying. Good cast thou, and good over the top special effect which reminds me of the good old days :)

I quite liked Cobra, it was OK, didnt have the humour and laughs of the BHC movies though. It was sometimes hard to understand Sly's mumbles ;)

A lot of the time DVDs have subs or closed captions. Miami Vice would certainly be a lot harder to watch without them.

I know, but the one I had was the Scandinavian one from a friend, no English subs :)

Did you know parts of Cobra were to be originally in Beverly Hills Cop. Before Eddie took over from Sly, which of course made it into an entirely different film.

Yep. So in a way "Cobra" is a bit like what Beverly Hills Cop would have been if Sly was the star.
I liked some of the deadpan one liners though.

"I'll blow this place up!"
"Go ahead, I don't shop here"

"Did you know you have an attitude problem?"
"Yeh, but it's just a SMALL one"

I've heard barely anything about it. It's not one of Sly's bigger films.

hey,

The Servants 2/5

Ronny Yu's first movie, albeit co-directed with Phillip Chan. A fairly gritty cops and gangsters tale with decent skills showcased in creating effective bursts of violence and tension. Lapses in storytelling logic makes the flick boil down to a handful of sequences merely working well.

Cobra was based on a novel Fair Game and was remade in 1995 as, er, Fair Game.

Heroes - Season 2 - Ep. 1 - 3/5
Nice start, but I expected more. But I'm 100% positive that it's going to be better as this was merely an introduction to the heroes' new lifes.

hey,

My Beloved 3/5

Unusually but not overly intelligent drama about social worker Mabel (Candice Yu - Lust For Love Of A Chinese Courtesan) abandoning her all AND humanity to have a test drive with inhumanity instead. She cycles through two rough men, one being an assassin played by Alex Man and the one she actually falls in love with. Pretty fucked up choices galore but director Wong Chi does actually creates some interesting cinema out of this. LOTS of violence although not much blood but that didn't stop Ocean Shores from issuing a cut vcd in fullscreen while their old vhs was letterboxed, subbed and uncut.

Food of the Gods:

True rating: 1/5

So bad it's good rating: 4/5

Terrible 70s "giant monster" film featuring killer rats. But I enjoyed laughing at it.

Flash Point - 3/5
Needless to say that I'm a huge fan of Donnie Yen's action direction. This film was ok. Real action kicks in after about 1 hour into the film. Before that you have some brief fighting scenes.
I noticed that they were inspired by a lot of older HK films, like "Police Story", "Police Story 2" and also by some Bruce Lee movies, especially "Way of the Dragon" and "Game of Death".

Well, I guess "Sha Po Lang" was the best of the three Yip/Yen-films. Interesting storyline and great action. "Dragon Tiger Gate" was more fantasy fighting and "Flash Point" features more shoot outs, but also one hell of a fist-to-fist showdown.

Commando - 3.5/5
One of my favorites growing up.

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer - 3/5
Much better than the original.

The Condemned - 2.5/5
So-so. Funny how after 100mins of non-stop violence the movie wants you to believe that violence is bad.

All the President's Men 3.5 outta 5.

Great movie, interesting story (non-fictional), great acting, etc. Yet the abrupt ending kinda ruins it for me. I would have liked the movie stock with it all for a little while longer. It's like they suddenly ran out of time/money, and decided to end the movie with some easy 'what happened next...' ending.

A real shame.

That bad? :|

I loved it but do hope QT gets back to serious films now. I somehow doubt it though, he's well passed them. He's not made one of those since the very underrated Jackie Brown 10 years ago.

I thought it was disappointingly lame.

Wicked (West End Musical) 4/5
Quite a clever twist on the Wizard of Oz story. The songs aren't exactly spectacular but they were decent enough. The production looked very expensive. Must be seen in London tbh.

Avenue Q (West End Musical) 4/5
Still P.M.S.L tbh. Hilarious piss take of Sesame St. Raunchy puppets are awesome.

Beverly Hills Cop ***/4

Solid Eddie Murphy vehicle, made him an instant star, needed more action, but Paramount refused to cough up the budget even when it was a Stallone project. That bloody theme music started to get on my tits though... songs were catchy.

Heathers ***/4

Blacker than black, razor sharp teen comedy/satire. Slater is a charismatic loon, Ryder is hot (I had no idea she was so young when they started filming!!) and the script has the best gag about bottled water ever.

I adore the BHC theme tune, not even Crazy Frog could ruin that for me.
