Double-sided discs have playback issues in some players, like my R1 Mallrats 10th Anniversary Edition.

I've never had a problem with double-sided discs.

Yeah, 'tis a very good film. That seems a good alternative to the Criterion which is a lot more expensive.

Sod it thanks Grim I've gone for it.

It's £10.08 at BlahDVD but otherwise the cheapest is £15.49 at DVD.co.uk.

The transfers are almost identical, the Criterion is a wee bit sharper but that's about it:

The Criterion has an extra commentary and about an extra hours worth of interviews BUT the extras still look excellent on the UK offering. It also has the choice of the original DD2.0 or DD5.0. The DD5.0 on Artificial Eye's Three Colours Trilogy worked rather well.

I'd prefer the extra Criterion extras too but the price is too limiting in this case.

That is too much of a price difference:

£8.89 vs. £15.73/$31.99 from CD WOW USA (cheapest I can find it)

That's getting close to twice the price for some interviews and a commentary, both I'm sure are good but even so. I've wanted to get this for a while. Three Colours Blue and Red are excellent, White is pretty good too.

Criterion extra extras:

* Audio commentary by Annette Insdorf the author of "Double Lives, Second Chances: The Cinema of Krzysztof Kieslowski
* 2006 Interview with cinematographer Sławomir Idziak (24:14)
* 2006 Interview with composer Zbigniew Preisner (21:12)
* 64-page booklet

AE extra extras:

4 short films:
- "Musicians" (10:17) a 1958 short by Kazimierz Karabaszby
- "Factory" (17:56) a 1970 short by Kieslowski
- "Hospital" (20:48 ) a 1976 short by Kieslowski
- "Railway Station" (13:05) a 1980 short by Kieslowski

The rest of the extras are the same.

Did you ever get the R1 Three Colours Trilogy?

I'm tempted but already have the AE UK discs which are fine. Going by the DVD Beaver comparison I do think they look better too, the R1 DVDs look to have the contrast boosted. The R1 DVDs have lots more extras but the UK extras are enough for me.

By many to be considered the definitive version. It doesn't differ much from the previous Warner except:

1. Has removable subs
2. Has an optional DD5.1 remix on top of the DD2.0
3. The colours are slightly better - It's otherwise an identical transfer
4. The documentary is now in the correct aspect ratio

Many dislike the vastly different colours on the Criterion, which does offer significantly more extras. I'm happy with it.

The Annette Insdorf commentaries on the R1 releases of Three Colours are very good. I don't that doubt this one on the Criterion would be any different.

And none of them I believe are the remastered jobs R1 got. The R1 box set is much better, but of course more expensive. I don't think any are letterboxed but some are definitely full frame though. That listing thankfully does say which, making it easier to decide.

I am sure it was £8.99 a month back, maybe wait till ist down again. They had a few at £8.99 if I remember, other one was Jay and Silent Boix mind you, which I dont think screams for HD.

I don't agree. If a movie's worth owning it's worth owning on HD. And if you can't be bothered with an HD edition you probably don't care about the film that much in the first place.
