What's a Chav?

Post by thelostdragon »

As the title says. I can't find a translation for this word. I suppose it is a bully or an extremely antisocial person, isn't it?

Basically British slang for wiggers, from what I gather.

I'm surprised it's not made it's way to your neck of the words Eva.

It's in the dictionary:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=chav

Chav is basically the same as White Trash, they've especially got zero dress sense and drive around all day blarring awful music from their cars (why do people do this?).

Where I live, a 'wigger' is simply a white person dressing all hip-hop style lol.

Watch Devvo on Fat Pie.com, and that is a chav :)

Last time I checked Burberry wasn't sports wear, besides there is a time and place for actual sports wear. It is rarely fashionable, to me anyway.

People always look like right tits when they walk around in shell suits, football t-shits, basketball t-shirts etc . . .. Most of them don't even play the sport. Sports wear is designed to aid when playing sports not as a fashion item.

Chavs wear trackie bottoms, they all wear them like it's their uniform or something, it's stupid.

Well, I guess we can call it uniform, but then shouldn't we also regard suits with ties the uniform of business men?

I wear sports wear from time to time, even when I'm outside. I wouldn't call myself a chav, though.

Yep. I hate having to wear that shit to work, especially ties. It does put me more in work mode but otherwise it's bollocks. I'm not suddenly better at my job just because I wear a shirt and tie, if anything I worked better in jeans.

Agree, brad!

What I don't like though is that if I lived in the UK and felt like wearing sports wear outside, I'd be regarded as a chav. Because I do like to wear sports wear from time to time. Yes, an NY baseball cap, too. No jewelry though, but you know what I mean.

Never realised LD was a chav! :o

Just kidding although I agree with Brad. Wearing trackie bottoms, sports wear etc when you're blatantly not doing any sports is hilariously uncool. It makes it easy to identify chavs but I guess every country has their own fashion culture.

I'm sure German chavs dress differently.

That's kinda the difference between a person like you wearing tracksuit clothing, and a chav wearing them. You only have to look to know, I know I wouldn't class you as a chav if I saw you walking past wearing your stuff. They also all have the same face. Nose looking like it's been punched, little squinty eyes. They all sound the same too. They talk something like a moaning duck, I can't think of a better way to describe it

They might do but the point I'm making is that they wear trackies when they don't (i.e. they wear them all the time).

No you wouldn't be considered a Chav. Just look at all the millions of Brits who wear football t-shirts. It's more than just the sports clothes.

its more their behaviour and attitude LD. sportswear seems to be their chosen uniform, but its a case of every sentence has atleast 5 swear words, they usually hang around in gangs and enjoy being loud, brash and rude, hanging around corners smoking and drinking and insulting people. the girls make up most of the population of teen moms too...

so no, you wouldnt be considered a chav here unless you acted this way ;)

Yeah, but you're actually sporty and in shape, whereas most chavs are just bums who buy the sportwear because it's loosefitting and has nice shouty labels and brands sprayed over them...

It's kinda like the poor man's 'bling'.
