French 2046 2-disc special edition: ANY GOOD!?!?

I saw the Tin version in the stores today for only 17 euro...
Problem is, I already have the HK version, so I need to know if the french release is better when it comes to AV-quality!?

It has DTS so is off to a good start. I'd be very, very surprised if it's not as good or better than the HK DVD.

Besides look at all those gorgeous extras. I'd love to own it.

I couldnt read the extra's cause they had taken a transparent sticker which listed the extras, in black text, and sticked it on a black tin...

I'll need to go to 2046 to find it. Problem is nobody has ever returned from 2046.

Thanks Tom. Yeah, I know there are no english subs, but there are Dutch, which is my original language so it should cause no problems

I much prefer english subs btw, but Dutch will do...

Strange it has Dutch subs but not English. Wait it's for the Belgian market of course!

not sure if it's also released in belgium. I live in Holland though. I think the Dutch just bought the rights to release the french release, since it has both France and Dutch subtitles.

I prefer english subs cause in many cases the asian language will be translated to english first, so it will mostly be the most accurate. Then, the English translation will be turned into Dutch...
So the English translation is just one step away from the original meaning, and the Dutch 2 steps, so the dutch translation has more chance to be inaccurate.

I'm sure some releases will also be translated from asian to dutch in 1 step, but I think in most cases there is an english step in-between.

Hope you could follow a bit what I mean...

I also prefer the english language over the Dutch language. I always play my HKL's with english subs, instead of Dutch...
I'm just used to it I guess...

Me too.

When there are both english subs and french subs I tend to choose english subs, even though french subs always have more nuances and are more precise.

That's because english is "closer" to cantonese.

For example:
In english:
"Siu Baak Lung" -> Little White Dragon.
In french:
"Siu Baak Lung" -> Petit Dragon Blanc (Little Dragon White).

The adjective is in the same place in both Cantonese and English languages.

That's why I tend to favour english subs. It's easier to learn the language when the subs match the original words.

Just watched the bonus disc of the dutch 2 disc dvd and it seems to be different from the french release, as there's only 1 static (and quite boring) menu-screen, while the french release (judging from the screenshots on that site) showed multiple menu-screens ala In The Mood For Love...

That's a shame :'(
