Chan has always been very upfront about not "getting" the appeal of his Hollywood films. I personally enjoyed the first 2 Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon films, but I think it's very refreshing to see a film star be totally honest about his own career. I also don't see nothing wrong with him signing up for a bunch of US films to take a ride on the Hollywood money train, whilst picking up more fans from the mainstream audiences in the West.

I doubt Chan would've ever bothered with Hollywood had they not come knocking at his door with film offers. Hollywood films represent big pay for relatively easy work, so why shouldn't he take the money and churn out something he thinks isn't particularly good?

I still say Jackie should've retired after Gorgeous.

I agree.

Jackie sold his legacy away by selling out.

That project sounded like utter shite the moment it was announced.

I think Jackie still has a lot to offer as a director.
With RH3 and Forbidden Kingdom, he's collecting money from Hollywood to finance his future career (that's what he said, anyway).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

It's the movie that put Jackie Chan in the major league in the U.S., but the Hong Kong star isn't a fan of his successful action comedy franchise "Rush Hour."
No shit Sherlock. It's painfully obvious Chan is completely bored in Rush Hour 3. You can see it all over his face.
"When we finished filming, I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor," Chan said in a blog entry on his Web site seen Sunday.
No shit sherlock. Does he really think for a second his Hong Kong stlye of action would appeal to the masses? Does he really expect to understand the humour? It's not as if he's remotely fluent in the language.

Personally I rate Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2 and Shanghai Knights as great fun. I didn't like Noon (the Donnie Yen fight was completely wasted for one) and RH3 was just dire.

But trying to make them more Chinese wouldn't have worked at all, they tried that in Noon and it didn't work. Chinese culture is just so different from American culture I don't know why he's still bothering.
helped the action star cross over to mainstream American audiences.
Exactly. It doesn't mean much to me that he moans AFTER the fact he's a star in America.
"The movie I just shot with Jet Li, 'The Forbidden Kingdom,' actually isn't that great," Chan was quoted as saying by the Web site of China's official Xinhua News Agency.
It's a bit late to say that AFTER the film is finished being made, maybe he said it during production. Personally I'm looking forward to it.

Chan and Li on the screen at the same time has to be scene. Chan saying it's been made for an American audience to some degree makes me more excited about it.
he uses the high salary he earns in the U.S. to fund Chinese-language projects that he's truly interested in.
Try actually doing something decent with all that money then  . When was the last truly great Chinese film he made?

So by that connection then Chan is saying The Myth is a better film than Rush Hour 2? Please.

I've just been looking through his films on IMDB after Gorgeous and boy there is some turkeys in there, mostly turkeys actually.

It's funny you should bring Gorgeous up (which was released almost 9 years ago) as I was going to watch that this week (first time). My HK DVD is atrocious quality though :( (still it's better than the cut to biys anamorphic international versions) and is strangely missing all the extras which reviews say it's supposed to have.

My reactions exactly from a few years back.

Universe decided to re-release it on dvd-5 (dropping all extras) but with the same cover art :x

Bloody good film. It's a shame there's no better edition. For some reason I can't find a R2J release at all...

I have to say I think I preferred 'Rush Hour' to 'The Myth'. At least 'Rush Hour' wasn't a pretentious bore. 'Gorgeous' isn't a great film, in fact it's one I might get rid of when I get to it in my clearout, but it's the last good film that Jackie has made. I accepted him trying something a little different, because his heart seemed to be in it (and who wouldn't want to boff Shu Qi?)

I thought The Myth was awful? Maybe it's not so bad. I've not seen it myself.

Oh really :( . It would've been nice if they'd remastered it at the same time. No doubt it being on a DVD-5 means the quality is even worse.

I'll post what I thought later on today :D . It was one of 8-10 titles I hadn't seen but decided to keep before selling on. I sold a fair few I hadn't seen but decided I never would get round to seeing.

Actually it was Shu Qi more so than Jackie Chan that made me keep it :D

Shu Qi is a bit too skinny and flat for my liking. I certainly dont hate her or find her ugly or whatever... but TBH I'd like a girl with a bit more booty and breasts ;)

Shu Qi is the reason i hate gorgeous...she's whiney, annoying and just argh she grates on every damn nerve, the pouting bugs the hell out of me. I dont like Shu Qi at the best of times tbh.

Gorgeous had some nice action, but I couldn't give it the light of day again for anything else.

It's been known for ages that Chan doesn't like RH. A very interesting and honest interview in his native language on the 'Invincible Fighter' World Video DVD is definitely worth a look, despite how short it is.

That photo is really weird looking (the one on the right)!

Brad, I think you've got Shanghai Noon and Knights mixed up

I still haven't seen Gorgeous, due to its shitty releases.

I prefer the Rush Hours to The Myth, although I haven't seen Rush Hour 3 yet. I enjoy Around the World in 80 Days, it's a fun film I think. I'm not interested at all in that Forbidden Kingdom film, and his comments on it don't surprise me at all.

I havent got that far on the "Invincible Fighter" DVD Scott, the subtitles are impossible to read, burnt in and cut off
The Myth was a great fun film IMO, should have been Armour of God 3.
I liked Gorgeous, it was romantic :)
