Do you have any links for this Romero?
Heres the cover and release date (should be out before december) :) still nothing anounced anywhere else in the world about another release, sad pathetic way they are treating us with these films.

Thanks Romero. I was going to pick up the R1 but will wait.

I see T2 and Pan's Labyrinth are also listed too. I'll probably pick up the UK Pan's Labyrinth (it's being released on both HD-DVD and BD) but have been looking forward to T2 on German HD-DVD. The release date of 2007/2008 is annoying though.

Depends on what is on the Death Proof HD DVD, if its got the same crap extras as the standard region 1 dvds, then that will suck bad!

True but tbh all I really care about is the HD AV quality. A commentary would be nice but I so rarely watch any more than a few minutes of extras I'm not bothered about losing them.

I'd take a bare-bones HD Disc over a decent stacked 2 Disc DVD.

Ahh but thats the thing, Death Proof may come out, then again in 6 months with tonnes of extras etc.. and then the full Grindhouse version.

Still the German HD DVD's aint cheap either, which is a shame. You would be looking at probibly £18-20. A lot to pay for an extra less HD version. Still hopefully it will have tonnes of extras, we can hope.

I guess all companies will announce what the hells going on with the HD versions soon, before Christamas surley, then we can at least pick one, the cheapest one will be best :D

I doubt either would cause me to buy it again. I've little interest in the Grind House version, the films work fine on their own IMO. I don't reckon the Grind House version will come to home format now, after it tanked so much in North America.

Yeah that is annoying. I wouldn't pay that much for it.

It's funny all the people buying HD discs now will probably have to buy the upgrades/sp. editions that come out by the time they actually get a player!! :D

i won't because i really don't give a shit about extras anymore. there might be the odd double dip from me but it'd be very rare.

Not really, some of us have HD players.

Extras I love, as long as they are good, but they rarley are. Commentaries and nice looooong documenraties are my thing, but docs are rare on even BIG dvds. A shit featurette is what people seem to want, about 14 of the little sods!

Why? Extras come way down the list nowadays for me. If the AV isn't up to much then maybe but so far I've been very wary of those (House of Flying Daggers and Terminator for example).

I only own 4 HD-DVDs and 1 BD. Two of the HD-DVDs are Combos so I can play them now, the BD was cheap as chips, as was the third HD-DVD and the final HD-DVD is the Matrix box set which cost me £17.89 so I'd have been mad to pass it by.

All my talk of HD Discs is future thinking. I will have a HD Player by years end so don't want to buy DVDs that I'm likely to only have to upgrade (except in rare cases).

Most people who buy HD Discs already have a HD Player.

I actually don't think so, it's just that's what we get all the time. They're easy to make but I don't know of anyone who really likes them.

Reviewers seem to like featreuttes the sad gimps! All should spit on them dvds and say no I wont review such crap.

There is a reason behind the featurette thing, cash.

It costs less to split things up into little parts, a lot less. The longer bits are, the more they cost, so its down to cash, sadly. Thats why we see so many multi part documentaries which get on my tits, instead of one big 2 hour documentary.

Sad really, as if they just pissed a bit more cash on their dvds they could make the so much better. The rage now to make extras even cheaper is to put credits after each segment! even more irrataing when each segment is 4 minutes bloody long.

Still Picture is most important to me for HD :) and so far I am doing well, even holding off getting some superb HD DVD's becuase I know the Blu Ray versions a bit better extras wise etc.. so when I get Blu Ray at least I wil have plenty of discs to get.

That and they can imply you're getting much more for your money on the rear of the case.

Which ones?

Most I've seen if anything favour HD-DVD with it's added interactive content.

LoL you come out with some remarkably baffling comments romero, but this one has definitely got me intrigued. Please explain how filming a 2hr documentary and then splitting it up into, say twelve 10min featurettes is actually cheaper than just slapping it onto the disc unaltered.

I think Romero means it's cheaper to create twelve fluff featurettes than one properly commissioned documentary.

That makes more sense I guess, although I would still argue that planning and editing lots of short featurettes could be more costly and time consuming than doing one big documentary (depending on what sort of footage is available).

Laurent Bouzereau and Charles de Lauzirika often make one doco, but split it up into featurettes.

It was not always like that with docs etc.. but sometime in the past new laws came about, and now they have to pay rights to certain people/companies etc.. when extras go over certain lengths, hence why so many are short now.

Its a cash thing, you can make a 2 hour documentary if you want and put it on the dvd, but it may incur a large fee to someone for doing so, so they cut it up and the fees are very small.

Planet Terror is out in the UK this Friday. I'll be seeing it next week. It's my local film festival at the moment.

I saw both films back to back at my local horror film festival last week. And the organisers showed vintage grindhouse trailers for classics like I Drink Your Blood, Master Of The Flying Guillotine and Dr. Black & Mr Hyde as well!

My expectations are pretty low. Rodriguez isn't in the same league as Tarantino. Having low expectations can often be a good thin though.

I prefer Rodriguez's film. Great fun. Tarentino's is more a catalogue of his indulgent fetishes and not much of a grindhouse film

The reviews have been less than glowing and it's clear that the distributors aren't expecting much business beyond the types of geeks who post on forums like this. ;)

Death Proof also had woeful reviews but they still released that. Probably because it has QT's name behind it but even then some absolute tosh gets a wide release.

TBH if it wasn't part of the double bill Grind House I wouldn't care.
