Your a fool if you think acting has much to do with action films etc..

In fact only a fool like you would say its a signature, for someone else to use, when you come out with some classy shit that blows me away.

Fair point except we weren't actually talking about action films were we. At least I wasn't.

Well Owen has not been in that many serious films latley :D and the ones he has (Children of Men for instance) required he do what was asked of him by the script, look bloody moody and pissed off and be like that for most the film. I think he is amazing in Children of Men, some people may not like the film as a whole, but he is a star after that film.

He is playing a major role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, which is out in November and is getting rave reviews. Elizabeth was excellent.

Halloween (blu-ray) 4.5/5

Still a great movie imo, builds the tension up nicely from the start and a nice compact 90 minutes.my only criticisms would be the female leads are a little old to be playing high school kids :? the music score is superb.still prefer precinct 13 from the early Carpenter movies though. The HD transfer is solid, clearly the best the movie has looked however it's not a movie you would use to show off HD to someone.

I watched this the other night, still love the film :D

But the ages of the stars, I think they all feel young and look young so that did not bother me at all, Jamie esspecially to me felt 18ish.
But they are a bit older in real life, some by a year or two, but some by well over 10 years! not that they feel like adults to me.

I am scared to see the remake, hopefully it will not ruin the origanal.

Metallic Blues - 2/5
Two Israeli car dealers go to Germany in the hope of big money. Unfortunately their plans go as wrong as this movie. Metallic Blues is a film for people who don’t know much about Israel, Germany, or movies. The storyline is too naive and features some really weak social commentary. Not a horrible movie but a totally uninspiring one.

Retribution (Sakebi) - 2,5/5
This is another rather typical j-horror fare. It’s unfortunate it had to be my first Kurosawa although I’m not letting it affect on my hopes. I’m convinced the director is capable of delivering good movies and I’m really looking forward to seeing Barren Illusions.

Black Book (Zwartboek) - 2,5/5
Verhoeven’s come back movie in an unoriginal and safely played WWII epic set in The Netherlands. Both the old school magic and Verhoeven’s golden exploitation touch are mostly missing. The storyline is often predictable but the humour works nicely. As a whole the movie remains somewhat entertaining throughout its 145 min running time.

Paprika – 3,5/5
Having loved Satoshi Kon’s previous films Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers I found Paprika surprisingly noisy (even if this was slightly visible in his older works, too). Nevertheless the movie is very catchy and offers a good ride for those not looking for anything too discreet.

Tuli – 1/5
Don’t let the glossy press materials fool you, this alwul Filipino movie looks like a bad home video (and is scripted accordingly). The hazy yellow tinted image is a disgrace to digital cinematography. Balancing somewhere between fiction and documentary Tuli’s depiction of adulthood rites and girl-love will either put you into sleep of make you feel very embarrased for the ”film makers”.

Been watching a lot of crap lately:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: 2,5 / 5
Loved Edward Scissorhands, adored Planet of the Apes (stop laughing !), but didn't like this one.
Too easy, too predictable, too pretty.
Did like Depp, though. He was quite creepy.

Little Miss Sunshine: 0 / 5
Horrible little film about a horrible family and a horrible fat little girl.
I only watched this because Bisc said he liked it, but I'll be more careful in the future. :D

The Holiday (Cameron Diaz / Kate Winslet): 2 / 5
Unoriginal.

The TV Set: 2 / 5
Boooooring.

I'm losing faith in modern western cinema, here...
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I like Planet of the Apes to even if all the deeper aspects are removed from the original.

I heard a rumour they fixed the colours, is this true?

I'm no historian but I don't recall Sir Walter Raleigh ever sleeping with Queen Elizabeth.

Not quite true. Although this site has given the image too low a rating just based on that fact.

Thanks Gasteropod.

Ah well at least it's partly fixed. It wouldn't stop me buying it though. It's not a big enough issue to me. I didn't realise Carpenter had gone as far as disowning the BD.

Patlabor OVA - 4/5
It's a little dated and a bit short but Oshii is just brilliant, enough said already.

Mulholland Drive - 3/5
When the box was opened it just lost me, before then it was as interesting enough film but the camerawork was horrid.

This is England - 2/5
Another cliché racist film.

The Last Hard Men - 2/5
James Coburn really shouldn't have starred in any Westerns. He looks like a scrawny inbred.

Road to Perdition - 1/5
Dishwater - is there anybody that likes this film?

Manhunter - 3.5/5
I wish I hadn't seen Red Dragon or indeed any ther Hopkins-as-Lector films before this one. My expectations were too high I suppose, still, it's a good film.

What! David Lynch is a master of camerawork!

It is a Lynch film ;) . I thought this was a masterpiece.
Lourdes wrote:Road to Perdition - 1/5

I think it's outstanding. The acting talent is worth it alone and that's before the fantastic cinematography.

It sounds like you made the same crucial mistake I did and compared it to the Hopkins performance. I didn't think too much of this until it's third viewing. It's an entirely different film to the Hopkins Lector films.

I still think SOTL is the best Lector film but this comes second. I now think it's outstanding. All the police investigating is brilliant.
