Isn't it about time they disbanded the charts?

Isn't it about time they disbanded the charts?

Post by Markgway »

What with that Crazy Fucking Frog reaching Number One spot, is there really any value left in the charts? It's just kids and morons (often the same) who buy chart music. Its no longer about music (and hasn't been for the longest time) so why bother?

I agree wholeheartedly Mark. That fucking frog is on every ad break anyway so who would download the song let alone buy it??? Anyway a dance version of the Beverley Hills Cop theme was made about 10 years ago (by Clock). Its' not new.

Amarillo was cheesy (IMO) but at least it was for charity.

Grrr

It's common knowledge that adults buy albums and kids buy singles. For various reasons:

1. Money, kids don't have much of it.
2. They hear one song and that's all their attention span can muster.

Personally I see the charts becoming more and more an online thing and less about the traditional sales in stores approach (the Icrap is pretty much seeing to this). Once you're no longer a teenager the charts lose all value and that in itself is fine as like I said kids make the charts.

I remember I used to have to know who was at number 1. I don't give a shit.

As for that frog don't get me started. What a ridiculous nation we live in censoring a CGI frog just because you can see his willy. Like that is going to offend anyone???

Why has it even got a willy?

I can't even begin to imagine how a person could think the ringtone is cool let alone how several thousand people can buy a single of it. Bunch of fucking cretins.

Good bloody question. It only means it now has a silly black bar across it.

I guess people like to fit in, all dress the same, sound the same and have the same ringtones!

I'm proud to say I've never had a downloadable ringtone. I use the traditional one that came with the phone. Ring-ring!! :D

I know the singles charts are for little sh, er, kids, but what pisses me off is that the media pretends otherwise, as if getting to number one IS important. Christ, the fucking Frog was on every news bulletin.

Singles sales are low compared to how they used to be. You can now get to the top slot with 20,000 or something. A fraction of what it was back when the charts actually meant something. The influx of hip hop and cheesy (pre)teen pop has put the boot in.

The singles chart should be disbanded leaving only the album chart as a barometer of popular tastes.

I created my own in GoldWave on my PC. My mobile supports WAVE or WMA files as ringtones.

I have a section from BPEs - Where is the Love? It sounds mint.

As if the Crazy Frog wasn't bad enough, there's now the Dancing Teddy or something!!! AARGGH!
At least thats a tune, but its still uber-annoying, based on a Jamaican nursery rhyme called Brown Girl in the Ring.

That stupid Frog now has another, er single in the charts called Popcorn. :o
This was an old song by the aptly named Hot Butter in 1972 - in fact it was used in a BBC Master Series game once :D

Don't worry Grim, the frog will fade away soon enough. These things only have a short shelf life.

Of course it could well be replaced with something worse.

ARRGH! Now the frog is releasing MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" :?
EXACTLY the same as the original but with assorted "ring-ring" noises from the frog.

Guys these songs do very well and young kids help them. That is what the charts are for so turn the channel over, listen to another radio station and buy decent music.

p.s - I can see that MC Hammer song doing very well, it's catchy.

:D It was used in The Simpsons in the "Bart Gets Famous" episode as the "I Didn't Do It" song :)
