I watched Delicatessen for the first time last night, was different to what I was expecting! Very quirky, and seemed Brazil-esque in a way :)

Mr Bean's Holiday (HD-DVD) 1/5

Truly appalling british "comedy" inexplicably made plenty of money at the box-office :? i never laughed once in the whole 90 minutes, the "plot" revolves around Bean holidaying in France and trying to get to Cannes. what the fuck is Willem Dafoe doing in this junk?ok he's not a megastar but i wouldn't have thought he'd need the paycheck.love to know what he was smoking when he read the script and accepted the part. And no i never bought this,my son got it in CEX via a trade and inflicted it on me

House Of A 1000 Corpses (blu-ray 3/5

Flawed but entertaining debut from Rob Zombie goes for a 70's texas chainsaw feel and succeeds in part. The killer family here are truly demented ,the stand out performance for me comes from sid haig as captain spaulding. Sherry Moon is hot as the evil Baby.unfortunately the 4 teenagers who run into this murderous family are deeply unlikeable and irritating and it's hard to feel any empathy with them.some very good scenes (Mosely holding the gun to the cop's head as the camera pans away is memorable). this has had a remaster and looks excellent, unfortunately still no sign of the director's cut. the disc also loses the fantastic and innovative menu screens from the old region 1 dvd.

Brother of Darkness – 3/5
Anthony Wong playing a decent citizen in a cat III film? Unbelievable, although not really a problem. Director Billy Tang (Red to Kill) is one of the more talented category 3 meastros and capable of delivering very solid thrillers. Brother of Darkness is less sleazy than some other genre films and even features some very romantic and beautiful scenes. The characters and storyline are pretty good as well. A special mention goes to my favourite cat III actress Lily Chung who plays the female lead. She’s got such sweetness and innocence that is extremely rare in the genre.

Ebola Syndrome – 3,5/5
This is the closest I’ve ever come to puking while watching a movie. I really started feeling nauseous during the African pork chop scene. And I was grinning like a madman at the same time. Herman Yau’s legendary and surprisingly large scale Ebola Syndrome is definitely one of the sickest movies ever made. But it’s also so damn funny it’s impossible not to enjoy. Anthony Wong is in his element as a pathetic madman, the dialogue is full of classics like ”It came off” and some of the plot turns will make you scratch your head thinking can they really do that?

Discotek version is great, can't believe they unearthed the deleted scenes, have you watched them?

yeah, I watched them. Too bad they didn't put them back into the movie (as the deleted footage is wonderfully remastered and looks as good as the rest of the movie)

hey,

only minor color differences and lack of score in some cut footage, otherwise terrific. A pro would've inserted those scenes into the flow of the pic easily and surely it wouldn't be the first time a cult classic was restored to uncut using various elements. Fuck, even Universe's Brother of Darkness has wildly mixed elements at some points.

Thanks for the review, Hung. You saw the flicks as they should be! ;) I seriously hope you watched EBOLA with the crazy, totally incomprehensible Hong Kong subs that no one understands. Yep, who fucking needs a retranslation for THAT flick!?

Think about how clogged up our system is today and give it a whirl or five again. It's a brilliant movie, full of details. Can you believe they tried to edit it down to make it more commercial?

Even from the DC? I heard there were 2 endings, the real ending and the happy ending.
It was only a rental so one day I'll give it a whirl again. I have yet to watch the "What is Brazil" doc :)

hey,

the director's cut is longer than both the European version and the theatrical version by a few minutes. What Gilliam was pushing for in America was a 130 minute version. During the fight, a studio executive hired editors to make a Love Conquers All version and it's absolutely hilarious, showing heads actually have their heads up their ass. This has turned up on TV.

What is Brazil is the on-set doc. If you have it available, watch The Battle For Brazil doc.

Thanks.
I thought the UK DVD was basically the DC, I might be wrong though.

ROAD HOUSE 3/5

Dumb as a bag of hammers... but tons of fun.

"I used to fuck guys like you in prison"

"Go fuck yourself!"

If one were to take it serously it would be bad... but it just happens to be cool.

Kelly Lynch's character, though hot, got right on my jubblies. Pity Swayze didn't rip her throat out.

A Very Long Engagement - 3.5/5
I liked this a lot to begin with, the quirky style of Amelié set to The Great War felt a bit off but it was fun and interesting. But at arout the halfway point my interested started to diminish as it became a bit too repetitive without introducing any new approaches. Had it ended sooner I would have been quite happy. However, it went on for too long and toward the finale I became a little impatient as the conclusion was dragged out. It's a nice film but it should have been shorter and tighter.

I associate Kelly Lynch with her recurring role in The L Word as a cross-dressing mechanic.

Voices from a Distant Star - 5/5
Spectacular, now that's what I call a film. So much raw emotion in such a short runtime. Heartbreaking shit man. I will definitely watch Byousoku 5 Centimeter soon.

I knew there was a DTV Part 2, but 3???

I would've checked it out had Swayze been in it, but it's obviously got bugger all to do with the original.

The Reaping 1.5/5

Hilary Swank is a former minister turned professor who goes to investigate what appears to the ten biblical plagues occurring in a small town.An interesting concept sunk by leaden, uninspiring direction, another charisma free performance from David Morrissey(how has this average actor made it in Hollywood?) and a lack of scares. Add this to the shit studio horror movies of the last 18 months,Messengers,Wicker Man remake etc..

Brazil (thinking about it again) - 4/5 at least

Very good film. I probably need to watch it again though.
I'm sure the happy Love Conquers All version would have sucked.
What happened when he sat in the chair, wired up at the end? Was that all a dream?

Shinobi - 2.5/5
Nice cinematography and choreography, loads of bad bad CGI and acting. Too obvious use of green/blue screen. Script was lean and fitting for this sort of thing, a better plot than HoFD at least.

From Beyond (Digitally remastered Director's cut): 4/5

Great follow-up to Re-animator and a hell of a good DVD transfer.

28 WEEKS LATER 2.5/5

Decent sequel, not up to the original.

Starts well, but loses it's way and turns into an action movie halfway through, and I'm not sure it was necessary to kill off so many major characters.

The overdone camerawork and editing may induce headaches.

Interesting. So it's not a happy ending.
