"Days of Heaven" that came from nowhere.

I have the bare-bones Paramount release. Hopefully it's as good as Malick's other work, except for The New World which was a major disappointment.

They only ship DVDs to US and English speaking Canada though by the looks of it.

Sorry, my post was badly worded.
Once I've seen it (and if I like it) I may upgrade :)

Strange they don't ship to French speaking Canada, that's weird. Never mind for the rest of us.

It is weird isn't it? I mean it's not like French-Canadians can't speak English, and then you've also got non-French Canadians who live in predominantly french areas, what about them?

I guess Criterion just hate the French! :D

I got a nice surprise when I checked my university email today (after a 2 week mid-semester break).

Dear Phil,

Congratulations! Your question was selected by Jim Jarmusch for the Q & A
special feature on our new "Night on Earth" DVD. We'd be happy to send you a
complimentary copy of the DVD so you can hear Jim's voice reading your name
and hometown, so please respond to this email with your mailing address. We
look forward to hearing back from you soon!

Sincerely,

Tamara

My god that's some treat you lucky bastard :D

What was your question btw? It must've been a good one. Now if they can ship to New Zealand why don't they allow international orders?

Where did you hear about the public Q&A?

I don't remember the majority of them, I think that they may've been about his influences and what not. The last question that I asked was "What is your favourite album by The Clash?" Jarmusch was good mates with Joe Strummer, you see. This question was to make my letter stand out.

Jim wasn't adverse to answering trivial questions for the Down By Law: Criterion Q&A. There were ones like "How do you pronounce your last name?" and "What's with your hair being prematurely grey?"

The extras on the Down By Law Criterion are more entertaining than the majority of commentaries. There was one where Jim had lengthy taped phone conversations with Roberto Benigi, Peter Lurie and Tom Waits, where they'd actively chat about their experiences making the film (telling each other anecdotes and the like). There's an archive interview with John Lurie taken recorded Cannes, with an optional commentary track by Lurie reminiscing about the experience. "What was I thinking?"
Where did you hear about the public Q&A?
In their newsletter a few months back.

It sounds like fun. So they didn't tell you which question then. I guess not.

I received my Night on Earth DVD today.

I went through my sent folder and found the questions that I asked. Jarmusch answered numbers 5 & 7.

Q1. Why don't you like making conventional DVD extras? Do you belong to the
"films should speak for themselves, so I'm not doing a commentary" school of
thought?
Q2. As a filmgoer and not as a filmmaker, what are your thoughts on the DVD
format?
Q3. Will you ever collaborate with John Lurie and/or Tom Waits on a film again?
Q4. Why don't you like discussing upcoming projects?
Q5. What are your favourite segments from your Coffee and Cigarettes
feature-length compilation?

Q6. What are your favourite Lee Marvin films?
Q7. What's your favourite album by The Clash?

Cool. My Dad is a big Tom Waits fan, personally I cannot stand him.
