I have all 3 Terminator films in HD but T2 is the Blu-ray version allthough I ear he HD-DVD is not that much better. I think T1 looks pretty good on BD but no where near as good as T2 or T3. But I was surprised at seeing a few nice daylight scenes when I heard it was not too good.
But the audio is pathetic and really only because they didn't include the mono. I agree completely with Iron Monkey, the damage would have been much less severe if they had just remixed the original audio and didn't add new foley effects. Nevertheless the lossless audio does sound good, expecially the title music but they shouldn't have screwed with the original sound effects.

Reports I've read say it is better, plus T2 BD just gives you bog average DTS. What's up with that???captainjoe wrote:I have all 3 Terminator films in HD but T2 is the Blu-ray version allthough I ear he HD-DVD is not that much better.
Do you ever import CJ?
Would you say therefore it's worth upgrading if you own the DVD?captainjoe wrote:I think T1 looks pretty good on BD but no where near as good as T2 or T3.
I guess I'm lucky in that I've never noticed any out of place foley effects on Terminator. It does always sound so much better to me though in Surround Sound.

Well, I think I'm going to go through the entire film at some point & pinpoint exactly which sound effects have been changed & which music cues have been removed.
I'll post it on here with times so that you can see for yourself by switching between the audio tracks...

Fat chance, he has no mono track. Only an obscure Euro language dub over a downmix of the 5.1.IronMonkey wrote:Well, I think I'm going to go through the entire film at some point & pinpoint exactly which sound effects have been changed & which music cues have been removed.

I hope you know what assumption equals? While possible that's not been confirmed.EvaUnit02 wrote:Only an obscure Euro language dub over a downmix of the 5.1.
But yes I own the UK R2 UE (The Sony not Fox one) which has English DD5.1 or DTS (the DTS is minutely different, hardly worth the bother) and Polish DD1.0 or Hungarian DD1.0.
It's possible the DD1.0 is based on the 5.1 but not confirmed. I compared the gun shot when the T100 enters the first Connor house and they sounded identical to me (obviously bar one was surround sound). I understand that's a good example where to compare. Maybe the difference is minute I don't know.
TBH even if I could tell it wouldn't change my enjoyment of the film. I love the Surround Sound track so wouldn't want to go back to Mono (except to compare) anyway.

Looks like my version, see http://www.ethaicd.com/show.php?pid=33592 . Note the region as well and is NTSC rather than PAL, i think this is a direct portgrim_tales wrote:Is that just a 1 disc version?

It's probably a port of the Korean R3. The majority of home grown Thai DVDs are PAL (from Thai studios). The cover art looks the same as the UK Fox Ultimate Edition (which is a clone of the Sony UE, just new cover art).
I won't be buying Terminator again until a decent HD version is released. The BD just doesn't cut it.
More info here confirming it's a Fox release and has English Mono:

I think it's a worthy upgrade from the SD-DVD. It surpassed my expectations.
I never really import as I've never had a region free DVD player and I just haven't taken the time to order any HDs from Europe.

Didn't you have the R1 SE too? I remember buying your Terminator UK DVD off you.slasher13 wrote:Yes I do, I have the 2 disk korean version and am happy with it, and it's original mono
I ended up selling that to get the UK UE for the DTS, which as I've said was a bit of a waste of time. Ah well "Terminator in DTS" does sound cool though
Interesting. On a scale of 1-10 how much of an improvement?captainjoe wrote:I think it's a worthy upgrade from the SD-DVD. It surpassed my expectations.

Even if the English Mono turns out to be a Downmix the PQ at least should be good, seeing as it's a Fox DVD.grim_tales wrote:You got the 2 disc version right Slasher?
I may import the Thai DVD as it seems like its a port.

I sold that to Mark, I don't like double sided dvd, they put the extras on one side, and the film on the other. Much better in getting a 2 disk version.bradavon wrote:Didn't you have the R1 SE too? Glad you still remember the UK, along time ago
It could be nice to do a comparision on the existing terminator threadEven if the English Mono turns out to be a Downmix the PQ at least should be good, seeing as it's a Fox DVD.grim_tales wrote:You got the 2 disc version right Slasher?

I'd say a 6.5 or maybe 7 but that might be pushing it. I just thought it looked good for the source material and the age but it could look better given a full restoration.bradavon wrote:Interesting. I know man there's a whole bunch of exclusives I want. That new German T2 HD-DVD looks nice!bradavon wrote:Come on CJ wake up to the side of the Jedicaptainjoe wrote:I never really import as I've never had a region free DVD player and I just haven't taken the time to order any HDs from Europe., you're missing out. There are stacks of non-Region 1 exclusives. Just like there are stacks of R1 exclusives.
*EDIT*
Is the PS3 a region-free DVD player?? I noticed on the box it said all regions but I'm not sure what it's refering to.

HD-DVDs are even Region Free so no excuse
, also unlike DVD they don't suffer from NTSC/PAL so will work for sure. I hear many American TVs struggle with PAL, something which hasn't effected European TVs for years (playing NTSC).
I'm not sure what it's referring to either as no the PS3 is region locked. At least the UK version is. I'd be very surprised if the Canadian version isn't. It's DVD and BD region locked. Many DVD Players can be made region free from the remote, have you checked yours cannot?
I don't know your thoughts on PAL speedup. i cannot ever notice it but it bothers some.
I'm not bothered about extras just proper HD Quality.
p.s - There is bound to be others but Sendit.com ship to Canada.

That is good. Even 4/5 would be worth getting. I think I'll still wait though, as really it's not a proper effort.captainjoe wrote:I'd say a 6.5 or maybe 7 but that might be pushing it.
