Anchorbay/Starz Press release: October Blu-rays

Post by captainjoe »

Anchorbay/Starz has released info about their upcoming Blu-rays. Suprisingly, all will feature the complete DVD features but Halloween is unknown and DOTD drops the additional cuts meaning two missing commentaries but the main things are still there.
MOH just feature commentaries.

Ta Joe. Terrific news.

I'm curious bout Halloween though. Fingers crossed for mono and the Criterion commentary at least.

Either Divimax or Cundey supervised print are fine by me.

From what I've read on other forums, they are using the Divimax HD transfer but correcting the colours to match the Cundey supervised transfer. Best of both worlds.

Isn't Divimax a process which basically blur the image to hide the imperfections ?

Isn't HD ultra sharp ? Therefore, is there finally going to be one day a DVD version of Halloween, that look like the film originally did, and is as sharp as the negative might allow ? Just asking.

Also, how many times will these be re-released on Blue Ray from Anchor Bay LOL

Dawn of the Dead release sucks, the Cannes cut is far better. No sale for me until they release all cuts! all extras! Anchor Bay scumbag re-releasers.

Good job I dont have Blu Ray yet or I would be pissed at them.

Ohh I am sure HD can improve old films like Dawn, I have not got any HD oldies yet. Oldest film I have is The Thing HD DV, and that looks stunning, so they can do older films bloody well thats for sure. Dawn is a lot cheaper than The Thing mind you :D

Its going to be interesting seeing what comes out thats for sure, Beastmaster HD I want :D

Blazing Saddles has been the most impressive "old" film i've seen in HD so far.

Blazzing Saddles looks great in HD, I found other Warner titles like Grand Prix look extrmely detailed too.

Which cut of Dawn is it, the original TC? I'm fine with any one except the shithouse Argento cut.

What was wrong with the old audio? I only ever tried the DTS track mind you and that sounded perfect, people complain about they want mono, bahh to that the DTS was amazing :D you could acctually hear certian words that you cannot in the mono.

Still I can see Anchor Bay fleecing HD for every penny they can, which is such a shame. Expect the next release of these films in a year or so I guess.

Thanks, original TC of Dawn is a good version.

Hopefully they put out Evil Dead 1 in the original open-matted 4:3 OAR on HD.

Romero, Joe and Sam:- have you got the Army of Darkness HD-DVD? If so, how does the transfer look?

Likewise I have the r3 version which is lovely when compared to Anchor Bay 2 Disk Version (Which I also have).

Dawn of the Dead is superb, love the 4 disk version :)

Ahh I thought you mean Dawn, yup Day had a few words redone for the Japanese version, they got the prints from Japan and didnt redo the sound :) I didnt really notice mind you.

I do not have Army of Darkness on HD yet either, was waiting for a great HD version and so far none have come out. From what I have read the HD is a upgrade, but not a vast one from the MGM dvd (I still own the MGM Region 3 and the 2 DVD Canadian version).

If its cheap on HD DVD I will probibly go for it :D as I am sure its nice looking compared to any standard dvd.

Great stuff.

It's Halloween for me, the rest don't interest me. Good to see more HD releases from the smaller labels.

p.s - Interesting to see Evil Dead only gets a 5.1 mix BUT does get PCM and the others get NO HD Audio tracks. That's a shame.

Hopefully Halloween will get PCM.

Same here and in most cases they are only 2-5 dollars more. For me it is worth it.

But New DVDs aren't exactly cheap. When you can regularly buy HD Discs for under £10 then I'll consider them cheap.

Well thats why I am not going insane and buying hundreds of HD discs yet :D but so far most I get are under £10 anyway, esspecially off forums etc.. you can bad brand new HD DVD's for under a tenner , some sealed still! :D

But I have paid some high prices also, Heroes Season 1 cost me £43. God damn it better blow me away :D

Still they are cheap considering the quality is so much better, esspecially as when DVDs came out 10 years back, they cost wayyy more (I paid I think £80 for The X Files Season 1!!!!).
