I'll take DVD over broadcast HD 99% of the time. Those twice encoded fansubs are horrible. I've released a few episodes from both series which were the original encodes from Share + DVD audio and softsubs. But the DVD's are still better, less detail and sharpness but much less blocking. It's a shame that it's near impossible to get Japanese transport streams.
I thought Ergo Proxy was just plain rubbish. Darker Than Black & Seirei are bookmarked but until all the R2 DVD's are out and subbed I'll pass on watching either.

I'm getting the R2UK of GitS: SAC - SSS for free so I'll add it to the comparison when it arrives.

ADV Takes Over Geneon's Sales, Marketing, Distribution
ICV2 is reporting that according to a notice sent to retailers, ADV Films will be handling the marketing, sales, and distribution for Geneon's entire catalog beginning October 1. The notice mentioned that Geneon will still be licensing and producing anime for North America, but the way those titles reach the market will now be handled by ADV Films. ADV Films declined to comment for this article; Geneon could not be reached for comment.

HUZZAH! Hopefully we'll see budget thinpak boxsets of Geneon's back-catalogue. So many Geneon titles that I'd love to pick up on R1 DVD, but Geneon DVDs NEVER seem to fall in price.

Wonder if they'll change who they author with. They were the only company to release decent quality discs.

I recall that the Cpt. Harlock: Endless Oydessy DVDs were authored by Knightjar. Bandai are good as well; especially the releases on their Honneamise label - which are all authored in Japan.

No chance of a Macross+ comparison, if I watch it and like it I might try but it's going to be a pain unless someone has the DVD's already.

Few screens from 1-2. Progressive w/2ch LPCM. Looks like a bit of a poor downconversion, EE and aliasing.

I'm currently on Episode 5 of Samurai Champloo, its pretty good. Love the soundtrack in the beginning, the artwork style is very cool, like the story and the characters. Def would get the boxset of this now.

It's not "pretty good". Witness the montage sequence at the beginning of 14, then it will hit you:- This was spawned from the same genius as Cowboy Bebop.

Anyone know if this is a double-disc set, or is it both movies on just 1 disc!?

How is the quality of the R2 transfers for these movies. Havent seen either yet btw.

I would expect single discs for each film. I don't own both but from what I can gather Millennium Actress should look just like the r1/r4 releases (decent), but Perfect Blue looks like arse.

The R4 and R2UK were taken from the same master AFAIK, so if it's anything like the R4 it should be good.

All releases of Perfect Blue except for the R2J (and possibly the rare R3K) are disasters.

Just watched Episode 9 and 10 of Samurai Champloo, Oh my god, episode 9 was sooo good, (Mugen at the end being drugged up with the leader  ), I was laughing so much. Episode 10 is excellent, the fight scenes was excellent, but what did mugen do to the street killer at the end fight. Did he repel the wind strike? How did he do that, as this was the 2nd time he fought the guy? Hopefully they would explain that in a later serie

Episode by episode this series just keeps on getting better. I can see why it is highly praised

I know its one of the anime series I will revisit later on, will def get the boxset for this.

Watched the GitS BD today. Clearly beats every other version but the quality is nothing like it should be.

I've 3 episodes of the Patlabor OVA to go, it looks like it gets more serious with the next episode but so far it has been rather like Scooby Doo.

I watched Code Geass season 1 recently. I wasn't expecting much, but found it quite decent, not one that I'd buy though. It has compelling and developed characters; and a reasonably interesting story and setting.

I got sick of how preachy it was after a while, can't the Japanese be more subtle with their morality lessons every once in a while? Must they always beat you over the head with it?

The director seems to be one to keep an eye on though. I might pick up the R1 Planetes boxset and borrow my friend's s-CRY-ed DVDs (he keeps raving about that one, but he likes A LOT of pure crap so I dunno.).

Aye I've seriously fell behind with new series. I have been regularly watching anime over the last 2 years, but it's all been older shows.

finished watching Samurai Champloo, Man this is excellent. Loved the song sungs in Episode 14 where Mugen is drowning, ahh that is soo heartfelt. The complete story and arch is just perfect, good ending. I'm glad they didn't kill off the two main characters, making the ending downbeat. It just a shame it has ended :(
