Kitano to return as Zatoichi

Takeshi Kitano Is Making Another Zatoichi Film.

http://www.kitanotakeshi.com/ : a website devoted to Takeshi Kitano, reports exclusively (it seems) that the man is indeed making a second Zatoichi film. The clue : he has dyed his hair blonde again. Don't worry, it's not just speculation, but true.

So, look forward to another superb film from Kitano next year sometime. By my calculations that will be the 32nd film to feature the chacter, and having really enjoyed Kitanos first this year, I am looking forward to this already.

Sequel or another story?

Out of the 4 Kitano films I've seen this is his best IMO, followed by Dolls.

Wolf I'm not a bard I'm a brad :D . Where is the avator from?

Oops I forgot that one. I'd put Hana-bi third.

"Only" Zatoichi worked for me tbh and even then I found parts boring (the retarded kid was overly used for comedic value).

I thought his so called Magnum Opus "Sonatine" was stupid and drivel really. "Hana-bi" showed promised but I couldn't connect with it. "Dolls" was beautiful but I also couldn't connect to it and "Brother" was simply gratuitous violence.

I find all his films very cold and uninviting; I've seen five that's giving the man a fair chance. I do plan to give "Dolls" another go (it's only £9.99 from Play) as that one showed the most potential. I only own "Zatoichi" currently!

I will say this Kitano has a huge presence which is ultimately why I keep returning to his work, even if I'm not a huge fan of it.

Hahaha you just dont like the Master really do you, I wouldnt even bother with any of his other films if you havent liked them so far, the ones you have seen are all pretty much amazing films you must just not be into his style at all.

The Retarded kid was absolutly fucking hilarious, the crowd I saw it in the cinemas with were laffing there tits off everytime he was on the screen. :duh:

Considering your unfair views on 21 Grams I think we have different tastes in films.

Don't get me wrong though he is clearly very talented, as I said Dolls is the only film I have an interest in seeing (again).

Well I never said I didnt like 21 Grammes, I have just seen that film a hundred times before there was nothing new in it at all, everyone was saying how new and different it was, when really there was nothing at all I havent seen many times before, but it was great just not a life changeing film like some are saying. :) if it was in order, the film wouldnt even have its unerving pace to fall back on.

and Dolls, well thats one of the few films I havent got as he isnt in it, if he was the star I would shell out, but I find its him I am paying for, I could watch him all day doing nothing, but watching other actors doesnt make a film his for me he has to be in it and direct it.

I agree with your views on the kid in Zatoichi too Brad (you mean the one who kept running around like a loon pretending he was a samurai right?)

I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

From KitanoTakeshi.com earlier this year.

----
Fans may possibly wait another year for Zatoichi 2.

As reported November 3, 2004, Kitano had already in August begun to dye his hair blond, as the contracts for Zatoichi 2 back then was signed. The reason for making Zatoichi 2 was, that Kitano when making the first film had promised Saito, that if it became a huge succes, then he would make a second film.

During the symposium at the Tokyo FilmEx in November 2004, Kitano talked about taking risks vs. making safe films and refered to Zatoichi 2 as an insurence

"If I make what I really want to make and it turns out to be a failure, I'll do Zatoichi 2. It's like an insurance policy. If things don't go well, I can make a claim on my insurance and recover half the cost."

And this may very well be the reason for the possible delay. While Kitano and Saito were discussing the production in January, rumours has it, that Saito now considers postponing, if not has postponed, the production until late 2005. Other reasons may be, that Kitano wants to spend time with his soon to come grandchild and his upcoming professorship.

As fans of Zatoichi eagerly await the follow-up, a possible delay needs reporting.

I paid about 25 quid for 8 films at the moment, will get the rest later once seen all thgese :) they are only about 4 pound each if I look about :) I started with the Animego releases of his films and will work on to the rest at a later date, so far so good. Seen 2 films and both were good and I can see how much Kitano was influenced by them.
