Suresh, sorry Slasher :)

At first the guy who predicted the future by painting (the comic book artist).. I thought that was drawn from stories like the one about the man who claimed to forseen 9/11 etc.. spooky.
I liked the part when Hiro goes to the comic stand and he gets the "Eighth Wonder" comic, about a hero who did exactly what Hiro himself did (go back in time by 1 second), and said the exact same things Hiro said in the episode :D

I enjoyed both but I preferred Identity to Supremacy.

I'm very flattered, maybe even a bit curious, but I don't go in for these backdoor shenanigans.

Neither, he's played by Jackie Chan.

Who was the Bruce Lee dude in Shaolin Soccer again?

:D

Anyhoo...

The Two Ronnies - S1 Eps 1-2: 3/5

Uneven. To be fair, this is the very first series of the comedy, and it's obviously developing. Barker and Corbett are fine comic talents though and there are some fun sketches involving Barker's clever wordplay and some music parodies.
However, other sketches fall flat which is unfortunate given the talent of writers involved (Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle etc), a lengthy parody of BBC costume dramas outstays its welcome, and that was even written by Barker himself (under the pseudonym Gerald Wiley).
I'd never seen the original full shows before, and the comedy skits are broken by novelty acts, and music (Tina Charles, New World etc) which I can take or leave really. As such its closer in tone to the duo's last ever series - The Two Ronnies Sketchbook from 2005, which had a music act in the middle.

hey,

Danny Chan is his name, grim. Was also the leader of the axe gang in KUNG FU HUSTLE and had a funny supporting part in I'LL CALL YOU (directed by Lam Tze-Chung, the fat fella from SHAOLIN SOCCER!)

Disciples Of Shaolin 4/5

Now this is the Chang Cheh to like! No plastic heroes that came to dominate his flicks as time went on, just quite well-honed drama tackling the age old tale of innocence corrupted. Good use of Fu Sheng's boyish looks, score, symbolism (the clock especially) and Lau Kar-leung's action. Remake by Johnnie To has its merits but loses much for going full blast when it comes to melodrama. It introduces an unexplored element in Chang's film though, that of Ti Lung and Maggie Cheung's understated relationship.

Bar the shakey cam Supremacy is definitely better. I still like Identity though. After I saw Supremacy the shakey cam really annoyed me but now I don't mind it so much. Ultimatum looks awesome and is getting rave reviews.

Both Bourne's feel so gritty and real, way better than all that CGI Gloss Hollywood usually gives us. I love the fact parts 1 & 2 are set in Europe too and European actors are used in both, especially Part 1. It makes a real change from American setting after American setting.

Tell No One (Ne le dis à Personne)

7 out 10

I saw this last w/e. Has any else seen it? It's a new French thriller.

On the one hand it was very good but boy it was confusing and not in a David Lynch kind of way. By the end I barley had a clue what was going on. Characters seemed to appear then disappear from nowhere, plot strands were thrown all over the place. It was definitely a good example of a hell of a lot being lost in subtitles. I did enjoy it but don’t have a clue what was going on. I even read the synopsis after and it mentioned plot strands that I completely missed. The best I can say is I got parts of the central plot but the rest huh???

That said the acting was as per usual for a French film excellent, as was the script (what I got of it) and it did keep me guessing. I definitely need to see it again though to try and figure out what on earth is going on.

Some long overdue ratings:-

Kare Kano - 5/5
Anno is God.

But I wrote elsewhere:-
This show is part-comedy, part-emotional drama that explores the complex psyches of troubled individuals as they interact with each other and form connections. Think Evangelion minus the robots and bible symbolism, but with the angst/alienation between characters and the humour cranked up 100.

Samurai Champloo 4.5/5
Watanabe is still at the top of his game. Great direction, editing, score and writing. Would buy the DVDs if the R1s weren't so damn expensive. Die in a fire Geneon.

Trigun - 3.5/5
Good balance of humour, exploration of characters with depth and action. I liked how it raised questions about morality.

The ending might've been tacked on but I thought it worked quite well and was well executed. Far from being the total travesty which Matt makes it out to be.

I can see why this show is so highly regarded. Again I would buy the R1 remix editions if Geneon didn't charge the Earth.

The Cheaters 2/5

Not as clever as a film like this needs to be, and the supposed main bad guy is too conveniently and easily dealt with...

A Hero Never Dies 2.5/5

Very average loyalty amongst gangsters type film. Largely uninspiring gun fights. Nothing I've not seen before, or done better.

Bourne Supremacy 2.5/5

Again i was rather underwhelmed by this,it's a decent thriller but like the first overrated imo. Wasn't impressed at all by the action scenes though the movie moves along at a good clip.

hey,

A Hero Never Dies is a cool flick, for us Johnnie To enthusiasts. Nothing quite like the coin flipping game in the bar, that speaks volumes and Lau Ching-wan dragging himself along on a little cart after losing his legs.
