listened to the Green Day version of The Simpsons theme today. was pretty cool. Planning to see it Sunday.
That was funny - the lyrics on the singer's screen just came up as 'Da da da da da da da da da da da da' etc :D

Transformer - 4/5
Awesome, I loved this movie... Err up until how Megatron dies!!! - Why did they do it this way and why did they have to!. Nice to see Frank Cullen voice again as Prime, and also Megatron saying "Prime!!!". The special effects was brilliant, and this movie is the movie you have to see in the cinema. Def will get this on DVD
Ahh but is he dead :D I seriously dont think so, bet you he is back for part 2,3,4 and 5 :D

Personally I loved the film (maybe the best film of the year so far, just behind 28 Weeks Later and 300), some awful crap in it mind you (John Tuturro was bile!) but in the end I found it one of the most entertaining films of the year, even with some of the hideous bits  someone needs to go in and edit some parts out I think, I think it could be much better with some edits and changes here and there.

Not yet, Orange Wednesday ;) :D

I did love Transformer, it was very funny in parts, and some scenes remind me of the old 80's cartoon, especially when they transform and you have the old transform sample.

Oh yeah another thing that the reason why it didn't bring it up to full 5 stars... they also killed off Jazz!!!!. Being a big fan of said robot, that wasn't nice

Slasher I like the Orange ad with Michael Masden when he's making a movie called the Phonebox Killer and he gets it ruined by the mobile phone guys - that's funny :D ;)

RE: TF
The analysts subplot we could've done without. Needed more decepticon screen time.

I havent seen Transformers and all, but
Megatron and Jazz being killed, does that even MEAN anything? they are ROBOTS arent they!? I'm sure there is a back-up of their personality somewhere... and they can build a new 'body' for it... no big deal.

But.... but.... but.... isnt their so-called 'spark' back-upped?

You know, for a movie about huge alien tranforming robots... I find this while 'spark' thing a little bit unrealistic...

You never watch the cartoon when you were a kid? The Transformers always had souls, no AI, so no "backup"

Indeed especially with StarScream and Megatron pi**ing each other off  They was a bit underused I think. Reckon they going to release a director's cut to include more decepticon?

Never really watched it. Never really liked it. I liked GI Joe and MASK though :)

Anyway, I just watched...

Inside Man: 3.5 outta 5

Good movie, outstanding performances, nice cinematography...

... but also, not the classic it could and maybe should have been.

This could have been our generation's Dog Day Afternoon, if we had cared more about Dalton's mission, and understood more about what his personal background was.... how he got to know about what he knew... (which is never explained), and it just feels like it's missing lots of stuff. Lot's of development, lots of background, etc etc. It feels like an incomplete movie which was maybe rushed or cut or whatever.

But like I said, it's still a very good movie. Spike Lee knows how to make his actors look great. Hell... he knows how to shoot a movie.

Apocalypto: 1 / 5
I must've missed something.
Wasn't this supposed to be an epic about the fall of the mayan civilization ?
Looked more like a cheap Predator / Anaconda remake to me.

Grave of the Fireflies: 5 / 5
Depressing...-ly brilliant.
One of the most powerful films I've ever seen.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I still havent seen it. I'm affraid I'll cry :)

Should George Bush see it?

I think we should let Cheney watch it. If he doesnt cry, but laughs and eats popcorn all the way through... I think that will be all the proof we need to confirm he's a robot, intent on destroying our world (one shotgun blast to the face at a time)

This film isn't about war (well... not really).
In Grave of the Fireflies, war is just a background and a starting point for the storyline.

From my POV, this movie is about pride (and how useless it is, especially in desperate situations), and how bad your life can become if you make the wrong decisions.

Good music, good acting, good animation.
It's just a very good film.

Just don't watch it when you're in a suicidal mood. :D

I am ALWAYS in a suicidal mood, Tom. :)

I thought this movie was about the effects of war and bombs on people/kids!? You see the aftermath of war? And raises the question about if it's worth it? (which, I'm guessing this movie will state, isnt! Damn soft left-wing biased anime-makers!)

The Matrix 5/5

What a bloody cool film. Makes me feel so good and happy watching it that I almost want to watch parts 2 and 3 again cause it almost managed to convince me that my memory is wrong and they weren't that bad...

Is surprising now that some of the SFX looks a little dated... just shows how good some of the stuff that we see and take for granted these days has improved since this film came out!

Yeah it's basically about the effect of the war on rural Japan as seen from the viewpoint of two children. Tom's take on the story is just as valid though, as the effects of pride and desperation have a major impact on the story.

Dolls (1986): 3.5/5

Good little horror film that is short and sweet at 76 minutes. Stuart Gordon filled it with some creepy moments involving the killer dolls. Interesting twist at the end.

That's a Stuart Gordon movie? That's good to know, I loved Re-Animator.
