Musa clones?

I only know of "Bichunmoo" (which is pushing the comparison a little), "Bang-rajan" and "Warriors of Heaven and Earth" which I hear isn't all that good.

So name me some as good/nearly as good asian, action, period epics?

Cheng Kaige's "The Emperor and the Assassin" is supposed to be quite good.

"Bichunmoo" (which is pushing the comparison a little)

More than "a little".

Bichunmoo is a fast-paced HongKong-like swordplay film mixed with typical Korean melodrama.
While it's a very good film, there's nothing "Epic" about it.

But if you liked Bichunmoo, you might like "Legend of the Evil Lake".
It's half swordplay, half Bride-With-White-Hair.

EDIT: Wong Kar-Wai's masterpiece "Ashes of Time" could fall into the "Epic" category (even though there's not much action in it).
Stephen Chow's "Chinese Odyssey" (which is a parody of Ashes of Time) is also perfectly watchable.

And, to a lesser extent: Sammo Hung's Blade of Fury. :supz:

I'm really surprised there aren't more. The ones you mention are the same ones the guys over at DVD Forums have mentioned.

Is "Legend of the Evil Lake" actually any good? I've heard dreadful things.

"Sword in the Moon" despite not coming close to Musa looks tops. I'll get that when a HK DVD is released.

I have "Ashes of Time" but the DVD is so awful quality.

Legend of Evil Lake is a very good film IMHO.
I know some reviews are very harsh, but it seems that a lot of people don't know how to appreciate korean films.

It has:
-A lovely leading lady who can be beautiful and scary at the same time.
-Very good fights choregraphed by Yuen Tak.
-CGI which are quite realistic.
-A short running time which means that you can't get bored.

BTW, I think that "Legend of Gingko" also falls into the "Epic" category.
I didn't like it because of the awful fight choregraphy, but the story and the acting are quite good.

Isn't "The Legend of Ginko" a sequel to "Ginko Bed"? Do I need to have seen that first?

Nah.
As far as I know these movies are only related by name.

TLOTEL has no HK DVD so I'll wait until it does.

The Korean dvd has been released 11 months ago already.
I'm not sure that it will ever be released in HK.

Gawd I love this movie

Korean DVDs are at least a tenner/14€. HK DVDs are pretty much always under a tenner/14€.

With the quality of HK DVDs now a days I see no reason to pay extra/much more for extras I'll never watch/can't watch.
