Just had a double bill of creature feature

Jaws 30th Ann (r1) - 5/5
Cracking movie, excellent score, still can just watch it and love it, and the 2hour documentary on the 2nd disc is excellent

Alligator (r2) - 4/5
Not much extra but good picture quality and audio, great film, shame no extras or very little. It has just been announced to be released in R1, but Anchor Bay R2 is great release. Robert Forster is excellent and Robin Riker is just lovely in this.

Nah it wasnt going to be about that, it was going to show us Bruce involve even more and get to grips with himself etc.. take on other foes as well as Mr Glass :) the origanal film was suposed to be very long and fully done, but they split it into 3 seperate films and only ever made 1 of them :( gutted, as LD says its a bloody good film, if not a masterpiece.

That reminds me I need to watch it again! :) best end ever I say, my heart just dropped when that end popped up, hearet breaking stuff I thought, so little yet soo much the film gets across I think.

It has more rewatch value than Sixth Sense IMO.
Does Sam Jackson's character know he is evil? :? Is it just to create an opposite to Bruce Willis?

Pan's Labyrinth - 5/5

Outstanding, dark fantasy fable. I loved it. The performance of the young girl is especially good.
So was the fantasy world real or just something she created to escape from the "reality" and the horrible captain and war? At the end it seemed she a) sacrificed herself to save her brother when she was shot b) being a princess was like her afterlife/heaven :) So in real life she had to die :(
I think that is one of the film's strengths, the ending is not a cut and dried "happy" ending IMO, can be ambiguous, is it happy or sad?.

I say yes, because he seems kinda enthusiastic, but at the same time sad about what he thinks he had to do in order to find that super hero.

Man, I was really thinking there should be a sequel and was wondering why they didn't make one. Why the hell did it flop at the box office? Guess because David Dull didn't fire lightning bolts from his eyes or couldn't fly or so.

@grim:
I think it's her imaginary world throughout the whole film, although the director claims otherwise as I have heard.

The commentary would be an interesting listen.
I agree it is her imaginary world to escape from the war, but it is nicer to think she is happy in her fantasy world as the princess, rather than scared and really unhappy in the real world, IMO
Did you like it?
The evil captain was possibly scarier than all the wierd creatures (that thing with no eyes was outstanding), the brutality was so "real" :(

I loved the film. It's one of the few films that made my eyes watery in the theatre. Usually films don't make me cry at the theatre.

I also loved it, I didn't cry though ;)
I also noticed Alfonso Cauron (sp?) was one of the producers, he was the reason Harry Potter 3 was actually decent... :D

I'm a Cyborg, but that's OK - 3/5
Nice film, but not quite as much of a comedy film as I had expected. I love the shoot-out scenes when Young-Goon destroys everything and everybody with machine gun fire from her fingers.

Dennis: Volume 2 - 3/5

Jeez I haven't seen many of the shorts on this set in 15-20 years. Goofy but kind of fun :D

BTW one of the trailers on the Garfield disc was for something called "Strawberry Shortcake" - I remember Bisc reviewing this once on the old BnB I think.

"I'm Strawberry, these are my friends Ginger Snap, Honey and Blossom" :puke:

Grim, the Strawberry Shortcake you're talking about is a cards/posters/dolls/cartoons franchise aimed at little girls. It's a bit like a girly version of the Cabbage Patch Kids and has absolutely no similarity to the Jdorama Strawberry on the Shortcake what so ever! :D

Except the title :D
Thanks for clearing that up ;)
Anyway, I saw a couple more TMNT episodes from Volume 5. I never realised how cut the UK TV version of Beware The Lotus was - several dialogue cuts/jumps because of - you guessed it - ninjas or its derivatives.
Pretty good, 3.5/5. I may get Season 4 at some point, as the "Lotus" story arc is completed. (I'd never seen that).

I watched Strawberry on the Shortcake. Complete and utter rubbish but there was lots of Abba so I couldn't help myself.

ABBA? Why?
They made some classic songs though :)

Mountain Patrol - 3/5

Thought it was OK but.. I dunno... I was very tired  This is the 2nd time I've seen this, it's still a good film, it's a misleading trailer though, the trailer makes it look like an action film when its really more of a drama.

Ichi the Killer 4.5/5

Still Miike's best but after reading the Manga, I can't help but think that there is so much more missing that should've been shown. Still for the purposes of making a film, it was spot on but IMO, a mini-series would've been smart.

Miike is pretty faithful to the Manga - heck, some of the shots are carbon copies of the drawings. There are a few improvements, which Miike has made - namely the implication of post-hypnosis (a factor that wasn't in the Manga - everything was more or less literal). The ending is also different (and again better in Miike's film).

Still, major credit to Yamamoto - the original Manga artist. After reading that, it's no wonder Miike chose to adapt it. The Manga is sick though - makes the movie look like My Little Pony.

Pinocchio (1940) - 5/5

Man, I hadn't seen this in over 15 years. Totally classic Disney. The main theme (When You Wish Upon a Star) is truly beautiful, and Lampwick's transforming into a donkey is still disturbing.
Brought back great memories. :)

Kino’s Journey (13 episodes) – 3,5/5
Well done and though provoking anime series that comes with some truly great episodes (Land of Adults, Land of Wizards) and not really any bad ones. The main characters is excellently voiced by Ai Maeda (Aki’s big sis) who also sings the lovely ending theme.

I Hired a Contract Killer – 4,5/5
My first Kaurismäki, and definitely not the last. Jean-Pierre Léaud plays a french man living in England who after a failed attempt of suicide hires a ”professional” to do the dirty job. Wonderfully directed, slow and humoristic film that never goes for cheap laughs or fast actions. The muted visual look is also perfect. London has never looked this good.

Dressed to Kill – 3,5/5
Poor start but turns into an effective b-thriller after the first third. I didn’t really mind De Palma borrowing half of the story from Hitchcock as De Palma’s visual style and storytelling skills were strong enough to hold the pieces together and turn them into a great thrill ride.

The General - 3/5
My first Buster Keaton film. I'm not a huge fan movies this old but this was quite good. The last 10 minutes is a let down though but otherwise this is a great comedy... and a great action movie too (better than Die Hard 4 )

Night at the Museum: 2 / 5

Proves you can make a bad film even if you've got a great concept and an Alan Silvestri score.

None of the actors in this film fit their characters.
It's like they deliberately decided to hire the wrong cast in order to destroy the film.
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are especially bad.
Oh, and Steve Coogan and Robin Williams too.

2 points for the idea and for the Tyrannosaurus that plays fetch.

Did not like it. Will not buy the DVD.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I hated the monkey TBH.
The Huns were cool, though.
