I read about this months ago, and a lot of people thought it was a fluke (as did I), and that it was just a tentative title... but, just two days before its apparent release, I find this:
Well, looks pretty set in stone. I've always been a Bruce Li/Ho Chung Tao fan, and while this is one of his lesser efforts in terms of martial arts, I think the camp value of the whole thing balances it out I have the Anchor Bay version, but I am interested in seeing this in Mandarin as Bruce Li films are VERY difficult to find subbed. The only one I have right now is the Taiwanese version of Exit the Dragon, Enter the Tiger entitled Bruce Lee: Star of All Stars. I'm actually thinking about getting this to see how different it may be in relation to the "Goodbye Bruce Lee" version... it's probably missing the equally wonderfully bad opening theme though
Yes, the Shaws distributed the film back in the day. There's a CHANCE that they may put out a few more co-productions of this type. And they have some VERY good ones!
I wondered what the connection was as I thought this was German-backed by Atlas International. So, what are other examples of Shaw distributed films? I know people were curious about the Shaw produced Hammer films, but people thought that those wouldn't have new releases. The whole "Shaw produced or Shaw distributed?" thing gets confusing from time to time... at least for me
The UK DVD box credits Kareem Abdul Jabbar but he was only in the US version - the film was shortened, narration was added and an interview with Jabbar was tacked on by the distributor Aquarius - those charming folks behind Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave

Don't forget 7 Doors of Death (The Beyond) and Dr. Butcher M.D. (Zombie Holocaust)... oh yeah, and Fist of Fear, Touch of Death!
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Aquarius who added "King of Kung Fu"... then again, it could've been Atlas who did it.
Well, I took the plunge and pre-ordered (well, by one day) the IVL disc of NGOD. Expect a review/comparison with the Anchor Bay disc (which is apparently identical to th UK disc) and differences between both versions... for those who are actually interested about this
being a fan of the silly and insane nature to these vehicles, where does New Game Of Death stand? One of my favourite Bruceploitation vehicles is probably The Clones Of Bruce Lee, starring Jon Benn! Lovely.
It's pretty amateurish fare, with poor fights and silly plotting. But its camp/sentimental value is through the roof, and it has the grooviest theme song

...not only has Celestial remastered this title... but mastered it in high definition. It's already an anomaly that Celestial worked on this title, but as a high definition transfer? The floor beneath me is getting cold because it seems as if hell is continuing to freeze over
Meanwhile, still waiting for the DVD to show up... hopefully it'll be here tomorrow!
THE DISC ARRIVED TODAY! Expect a review/comparison in the, uh, review/comparison section in a few hours. I've skimmed through the disc real quick, and it's definately a different cut of the film, including a slightly extended opening credits scene starting with Bruce Li jumping hurdles on a track, and a new theme... "Love's Theme" by the Love Unlimited Orchestra
Plus, not only does the disc have the usual new Celestial trailer (done semi-Grindhouse style), but it even has the original Hong Kong trailer. Stay tuned for the full review!
